Geography of Daytona Beach 

Daytona Beach is located on Florida's Central East Coast region. The community spans 23 miles along the Atlantic Coast and is the most-well known city within Volusia county. Other cities and towns in the Daytona Beach area include Ormond Beach, Ormond By-The-Sea, South Daytona, Daytona BeachShores, Holly Hill,Wilbur By-The-Sea and Ponce Inlet. There are three major rivers in the area: the St. Johns River, the Tomoka River, and the Halifax River, also known as the Intracoastal Waterway.

Weather at Daytona Beach 

The average annual temperature in Daytona Beach is a warm 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius). The average water temperature is also 70 degrees Fahrenheit. A typical January might range between the mid 60s and low 70s during the day and the 50s at night. Rain fall in the region can vary from .10 to .25 inches.

The Beach at Daytona 

The beach is up to 500 feet wide at low tide and is perfect for castle building, cycling, jogging, fishing or just relaxing in the sun. While at the beach, watersports enthusiasts can grab a surfboard, launch a boat or head out for a parasailing adventure. The Atlantic Ocean is perfect for swimming especially during the spring and summer when temperatures range from 74 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (23 to 27 degrees Celsius).

While driving is permitted on 11 of the 23-mile long beach area, four pedestrian-only zones are found at various intervals. The most central pedestrian beach zone is found north and south of the historic Daytona Beach Pier (formerly known as Main Street Pier) in Daytona Beach.
