December 10, 2008

After the worldwide attention that the 11/15 protest to Fight the H8 got, something new was planned. An event to show the impact on and the love for our community that all of us No on 8 folks have. It is time to Call in Gay* so you can work in your neighborhood and make the world a better place. No shopping, no entertainment, no work, no spending money, just hard work for a good cause! There are only a few days left to get ready, so make sure you can Call in Gay*!!

*Call in Gay is just a catchy phrase... I am NOT implying being gay equates to being sick and also you do NOT have to be gay to participate!! I consider myself straight, not narrow!!

Tell Me Your Impact

Any stories from Day Without a Gay? I'd love to hear them! Where did you volunteer? Was it hell with no computer, or Starbucks!!? Did your boss give you a hard time?

Breaking News

Day Without A Gay is now an INTERNATIONAL Event!! So everybody outside the US make sure you participate too!

Strike

Call in Gay!

Step 1

Strike

Call in Gay! Don't go to work, close your business, play hooky from school, don't do, well, anything, that you normally do!

10 Things To Do

Before Day Without A Gay

A few things to do before December 10th to make sure your day goes nice and smooth.
  1. Give your boss a heads up. (Don't want any tension because you told them an hour after you were supposed to be in!)
  2. Make sure you have food and drinks! (pretty self explanatory, right)
  3. Learn how to make yourself a cup of coffee (Would HATE to look/feel like a zombie all day while boycotting Starbucks!)
  4. Decide where you are going to help out and contact them (It would suck to show up and be sent home)
  5. Check that gas tank! (Don't wanna run out picking up trash on the side of the highway)
  6. Start working on your letters for equality (You know, to send to the congress men and women!)
  7. Just unplug the tv and internet (so you won't be ultra tempted all day)
  8. Get some friends to Call in Gay with you! (It's always more fun with company)
  9. Make sure you have some money in your account you can withdraw on Dec. 10th (Just promise not to spend it until the 11th)
  10. Tell your teachers (you might be able to get your work, or turn things in early)

If You Can't Miss Work

It's OK!! You can still boycott, volunteer before or after work, and write letters to your government officials. Anything and Everything helps!

Boycott

Keep that $$ in your pocket!

Step 2

Boycott

Make sure not to put any money into the economy today. No groceries, gas, shopping, any spending money really! Also, don't forget to turn of the tv and internet... and stay away from the phone as much as possible. Let's show what kind of impact we can have!

10 things NOT to do

during Day Without A Gay

Hey, you DO know what boycotting means don't ya?? Make sure NOT to do any of these things on December 1oth!
  1. Get your daily Starbucks (come on, you can go without just this once)
  2. Buy Groceries (you should have thought ahead!)
  3. Watch television (Yes, this does include Bravo!)
  4. Fill up your tank (this one is important)
  5. Buy that cashmere sweater that is 30% off (resist sister)
  6. Eat some McDonald's french fries (shouldn't do that anyway!)
  7. Go see some strippers (except at a gay club of course)
  8. Use you're internet (Oh Bob, what will I do?)
  9. Go get some drinks with the guys, or girls (it's cheaper at home anyway)
  10. Go see a show (No $$ means No $$)

Songs about equality, justice, discrimination, and freedom

Check out my favorite songs! I've handpicked these MP3s from Amazon. Take a listen. If you like, you can click to buy them on Amazon.

Participate

Give something back

Step 3

Participate

Do something for the cause or your community. Right a letter about equality to your representatives, organize or attend a protest, help out at the local animal shelter, or even just pick up some trash at the park! Anything you can do to help make this world a better place for everyone!

Well, I won't be, but I do support it. Even if only gay people do this that is 1/7th of all workers and consumers. That is a huge message!

The Most Important Thing
