Dead Island

Dead Island is a first-person melee combat game where you battle for survival against hordes of horrible zombies. Not only can you fight it out alone but you can also wage war with a 4 player co-op mode. So if you like mindless violence against mindless zombies with blood and guts by the bucket load, then this is for you.

It is set on a tropical island called the Island of Banoi. It is supposed to be a nice tropical island where people can go and enjoy the sun, sea and calm, but then all hell breaks loose. It's the normal run of the mill zombie story line, where an outbreak occurs, zombies appear some people are immune and they have to fight for survival.

The game touches upon role playing game elements (RPG) by allowing the characters to develop throughout the game. You can also customise weaponry, to help you in your battle against the undead. One of the best features is that the zombies have multilayered flesh. So you can cut through skin, muscle and bone in real time live action. This gives them a multi layered damage system with real time affects to injuries.

It is being developed by Techland and produced by Deep Silver. It is built on the same gaming engine as Call of Juarez: The Cartel, which is a sequel to the successful Call of Juarez.

The game is set to be released for the Playstation 3 (PS3), Xbox 360 and on PC. The official date of release in North America on September 6th and in the rest of the world on September 9th, 2011

Advertised in the brochure as the place that makes dreams come true.

Located in the Island of Banoi which is supposed to be situated off of the coast of Papua New Guinea north of Australia. Its supposed to be a new tourist island that has not been used up until recent years. Your typical tropical island where you can relax, see nature and enjoy the sun.
The resort is found in the hills above the sandy beaches of Banoi. It is a 5 star resort, which allows the game to blend a luxury hotel and swimming pool complex with the surrounding natural elements of the island.

The people of the island and the animal life will add an extra dimension to the zombie base combined with that of the plethora of people you get in a holiday resort. Plenty of zombie fodder to be found.

Dead Island Characters - Xian Mei and Others

Xian Mei

Xian Mei is one of the heroes on Dead Island. She is Chinese and left China to become a member of staff working as a receptionist at the Royal Palm Resort. Being one of the heroes means that she is immune to the outbreak that is causing the zombies.
She is stated as being a keen sportswoman so she is quick on her feet, also an intelligent fast learner. You would need to be quick to avoid all these zombies.

Purna

Yet another character where little information is known. All that is known is that she is a thin female.

Character review

As with most games these days they have gone for a 50 50 split between genders. Long gone are the days where games were dominated by men, Lara Croft and the Street Fighter girls are to thank for that. I am guessing that to remain as politically correct as possible, the remaining characters will be one white guy, one black guy and a white girl. That covers the required ethnicities.

Once strong, self-confident and proud, Sam B has had a troubled past and a history of drug and alcohol abuse, as his private life became caught in a haze of fake friends and bad advisors.

Dead Island Character Logan

"A former American football star, spoiled by life and successful in every possible way, Logan's ego finally put an end to his bright future. Taking part in a reckless street race with tragic consequences, Logan not only killed a young woman - his unfortunate passenger; he also fractured his knee, putting an end to his sports career. His fall from stardom inevitably followed and he plunged swiftly into a life of bitterness and despair. In an attempt to get away from the demons hunting him, he gladly takes the chance to experience the beauties and wonders of Banoi.

Dead Island Reviews

Dead Island ReviewAs Dead Island is not actually out yet, the only reviews that are available are from pre release tests. Some of these did not have a full version of the game as it hadn't been completed yet.

The reviews seem to suggest that there is nothing really new about Dead Island. It is a Zombie killer game, there has been loads before. However they state that it does tend to combine all of the best elements from all of the best selling Zombie games to make an all in great package.

The 4 player coop mode is supposed to be the most enjoyable as you get to lop off zombie limbs with friends. The level of detail and the quantity of blood and guts adds an extra element to a fun zombie slay fest.

So currently the consensus is that the game is fun, looks good and combines all the best bits of other zombie games.

Dead Island to Take Over Playstation Home

Deep Silver have announced that shortly before the games release in September they will be taking over the Playstation Home area. The Playstation Home will feature a Dead Island theme, making it look like the Island of Banoi. There will be zombies roaming round and you will also get the opportunity to have your Avatar have their photo taken with a zombie. This will help raise the awareness of Playstation gamers to the imminent release of the game.

The trailer for the game was made to shock people, is it wrong to use shock tactics and children to sell games?

I think it is all right, the trailer was cool and its only an animation after all. No real children were hurt in the making of the trailer.
