Dead Sea Bath Salt--Bring The Healing Minerals of the Dead Sea to Your Bath
Why is Salt From the Dead Sea So Special?
Photo by bachmontThe use of Dead Sea bath salt at home is an effective way to relax and absorb the minerals of the Dead Sea region.
The Dead Sea is located at the lowest elevation on Earth, 1,385 ft below sea level. It is actually a lake, not a sea and takes in an area located in Jordan, the West Bank and Israel. It is one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with 33% salinity.
The water of the Dead Sea is infused with many healing minerals, and has been famous for millenniums for easing and even curing many skin conditions.
By creating your own bath salt with this wonderful therapeutic salt, you can reap its many known benefits as well.
Need a Recipe for Dead Sea Bath Salts?
Here You Go!
* 3 cups Epsom Salt
* 2 cups sea salt of your choice
* 1/2 ounce of fragrance or essential oil
* 1 cup baking soda (acts as a water softener)
* 3 tbsp. Glycerin or oil--optional.
* Colorant--add drop by drop until desired shade is reached.
Mix the salts, baking soda, essential oils or fragrance, colorant and glycerin (if using) together in a mixing bowl. Take care in choosing essential oils to use in the bath.
Glycerin and jetted tubs don't mix, so if you are planning to use your Dead Sea bath salt in a jetted tub, skip the glycerin.
You don't have to tint the whole batch the same, or use the same fragrances in all. A good way to mix in the color is to pour a portion of your salt into a ziplock bag, seal, then gently knead the bag to disperse the color througout.
If you want to extend the shelf life of your Dead Sea bath salt, add about 1/4 dendritic salt to the mixture. This can be ordered online if you can't find it locally.
Save Big When You Make Your Own Dead Sea Bath Salt
Exclusive bath and body stores charge as much as a steep 600% mark-up on the ingredients of Dead Sea bath salt when they sell you the product ready-made.
So skip the middle man and learn how you can make your own Dead Sea bath salt for mere pennies on the dollar as compared to what bath and body stores charge.
Can't Find Dead Sea Salt In Your Local Store?
You can buy Dead Sea salt at many health stores, or order it online to make your own products. Make sure that you get the genuine article, as many companies try to pass off blends as the real thing.
It is far less expensive than you think to purchase. For what you would pay for a single bottle in a specialty shop, you can buy enough Dead Sea salt to make enough product for your own needs and to give as gifts as well. Although some of these sizes of Dead Sea salt are fairly large, why not share with a friend or neighbor who is also interested in making Dead Sea bath salt?
