Dead Sea Mineral Salts to Australia
I recently grew frustrated when trying to buy certified unscented Dead Sea Mineral Salts from Australia. The astronomically expensive postage costs from overseas suppliers is a major annoyance. So I decided to start this site to share my research. I am on a hunt for the cheapest postage for Australian residents who buy pure Dead Sea Mineral Salts.
Over the last year or so I've bought Dead Sea Salt Mud masks from: a supplier from eBay in the US; a 'Dead Sea' Mud Mask from an Australian on eBay only to find that it looked, smelled, and felt like farm mud (needless to say I was not happy); a combo of Sea Salts and Mud Mask from a legitimate store in the US, and dished out my $40 bucks for postage; and lastly I finally came across a supplier that has reasonable postage and good quality, but before I get into that, I'll elaborate on my experiences shopping for dead sea salts so far...

Ahava Products, eBay, and Private Suppliers
Dead Sea Salts - whoooah is that the price!
The Ahava range has dominated our Australian Dead Sea Salt market for a while now, and if you've ever looked into the cost of Ahava you might feel a sharp jab in your side whilst doing so. It's not cheap.
If you're like me, after your mini heart attack about the cost of Ahava products, you went shopping on the internet looking for Dead Sea Salt products that are cheaper than what's for sale locally. Then you get excited about the prices on eBay, and US sites, and put an order in, but when you go to pay you realise that either shipping is ridiculously high in price, or the quality is not assured.
Below are my experiences with shopping for authentic dead sea salts online which I hope will help you make up your mind what direction is best for you....

Dead Sea Mineral Salts from Amazon
Forget it, they don't ship to Australia
I'm sad to say that all the great price authentic dead sea salts for sale on Amazon return with this message when I went to pay...
"We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. "
(I live in Australia btw)
If you'd like to see for yourself, here are a few links...
Midwest Bath Salt Company 100% Pure Dead Sea Mineral Bath Salt - 20 Pounds
Natural Dead Sea Salt - Unscented, 10 Pounds SeaOra Mineral Skin Care Natural Dead Sea Salt - Unscented, Treat Psoriasis - 10 Pounds
Ahava on Amazon, the same problem, "AHAVA Dead Sea Bath Salts 5.0 lbs (80 oz) cannot be shipped to the selected address" The link here, AHAVA Dead Sea Bath Salts 5.0 lbs (80 oz)
Masada Bath Salts, Purifying Eucalyptus, Dead Sea Mineral, 64 Ounces (1.814 kg), this product has a super special on shipping for repeat orders, but, you guessed it "This item cannot be shipped to the address you selected" The link is here, Masada Bath Salts, Purifying Eucalyptus, Dead Sea Mineral, 64 Ounces (1.814 kg)
So, with Amazon out, we're onto the private sellers (and hefty postage, sigh)...

Dead Sea Salts from Ebay
Hhhmmm, is that reeeally from the Dead Sea?
The biggest issue I came across when shopping for Dead Sea Mineral Masks and Dead Sea Salts on Ebay was how to work out which sellers sell authentic Dead Sea Salts and Mud Masks.
I have spent a lot of time reading through Ebay ads, and if I shared all my research here it'd make for really boring reading! (I realise I have created this site to help you choose, but for me to go though and tell you about every Ebay ad is not the best use of this space. I'd rather cut to the chase if you know what I mean. (Btw, if you want to cut to the chase right now visit CleopatrasChoice.com because so far they're the best company I've found for quality and shipping to Australia.)
By now most of us online shoppers realise that Ebay sellers can get away with more than official suppliers, including Dead Sea Salt sellers claiming authenticity. There's no escaping the fact that on Ebay you really don't know who you're buying from. Although, the feedback system of Ebay does help overcome this. I usually read the feedback before I buy anything.
All I can do is tell you that I recommend the masks sold by the Ebay shop called Dead Sea Shop They have a range to choose from but nothing is raw, what I mean is, everything has some other ingredient added. Even so, the two masks I've bought are lovely, and affordable, (those were, Dead Sea Mineral Facial Care Moisturizing Mask and Dead Sea Face Skin Mineral Mud Cleansing Mask ) and shipping took approximately a week and a half, from purchase to my doorstep, which is pretty good. But unfortunately they don't sell bulk unscented dead sea mineral salt or pure dead sea mud with nothing else added.
It also appears that there are several ebay sellers who claim authenticity for their Dead Sea Mineral Salts:
Nexa Spa Dead Sea Minerals
US Skin Care
(If you have had experience buying from these two please comment in the guestbook below and let me know.)
My experience is that with small ebay sellers, Australian customs can take longer to release the package. Think about it - fine and course grain sea salt could look suspicious at first glance so they may test a sample of it, hence the wait-time. Australian customs is strict and there is always a chance that if the packaging a seller uses looks suspect, then the item can get held up in Australian customs for a while.
Which is why I recommend you buy direct through company websites, rather than on Ebay. But that's just me. Plus buying direct saves time. On Ebay you can waste hours reading ads and watching bids. I have personally wasted a lot of time on Ebay and it's not really my preferred way to shop because of time management and the above mentioned quality issues.
I say, save some time and go direct to the bigger shops...
Direct from Company Websites
Shipping Schmipping
To make a long story short, I found that this website has the best shipping options for Australian shoppers CleopatrasChoice.com
I've bought from the San Francisco Bath Salts Company, who are a huge supplier with a great range of authentic dead sea products, but the shipping to Australia is $40 for 0-20lbs - that means if you order 40lbs (20kgs) of salts, you pay $80 in shipping or if you order one 2lb (1kg) jar of mud mask, you still pay $40 shipping.
So far, Cleopatra's Choice wins on both price and quality, and they even tell you how much they love Australian shoppers, so you can assume that Australian customs and Cleopatra's Choice have an understanding.
Check them out for yourself at CleopatrasChoice.com and if you've found this information useful let me know in the Guestbook below...
