Dead Poets Society, directed by Peter Weir was a movie that resonated with a whole generation of misunderstood teenagers who were trying to find their identity.

The story is set in a strict 1950s prep school. A new English teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams) joins Welton Academy and starts to awaken his class to life through literature with tragic consequences.

The movie won Best Screenplay at the Oscars and the fine acting from the youthful actors - Sean Robert Leonard and Ethan Hawke - has continued to inspire over the last two decades. See clips from the film below.

Peter Weir - The Director 

Peter Lindsay Weir AM (born 21 August 1944) is an Australian film director. After playing a leading role in the Australian New Wave cinema with his films such as Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave and Gallipoli, Weir relocated to the US and directed a diverse group of American and international films -- many of them major box office hits -- including the Academy Award nominees Witness, Dead Poets Society, Green Card, The Truman Show and Category: Master and Commander - : The Far Side of the World|Master and Commander.
