Panic attacks have become dreadful experiences for many people around the world. The feelings and emotions one has to go through while having a panic attack are nothing but short of emotional torture. The only question that has been rattling the minds of these victims is How to Deal with Panic Attacks??? One should always remember that panic attacks are not incurable diseases and are definitely not fatal. Dealing with panic attacks requires some patience, confidence and maintaining a strict lifestyle. With the help of few tips given below, you can get rid of panic attacks even before you realize it.

Causes and Symptoms of Anxiety Panic Attacks

A must-know while dealing with panic attacks...

To deal with panic attacks, you must know what triggers them in the first place. Different people might experience panic attacks because of different factors, including emotional stress, lack of sleep, unhealthy lifestyle, pressure at work or home, etc. Panic attacks might also be a result of many medical conditions like social phobias, depression, personality disorders, hormonal imbalances, etc. Based on the causative factor, you can deal with panic attacks accordingly.

You should also be aware of the symptoms of panic attacks, so that the next time you face an attack, you will know that it is just one of those days. These symptoms include profuse sweating, increased heart-beat rate, hyperventilation, severe headaches, chest pain, dizziness, nausea, an impending sense of death, and more. The worst part of these symptoms is that they are very similar to that of a heart attack. As a result, many people become terrified that they are having a heart-attack and make things worse.

Steps to Deal with Panic Attacks

Self-assurance and maintaining composure....

As mentioned above, people become all the more panicky when they have a panic attack, fearing that they would die. The first step to deal with panic attacks is to assure yourself that you will not die because of an anxiety attack. No deaths have been reported because of panic attacks and they are not fatal. You can win over such episodes by acknowledging the fact that you are just undergoing another panic attack and that things will be fine after this. If you assure yourself that you won't die, you can easily come out of an attack. So it is best not to suppress or fight against a panic attack. Instead, deal with panic attacks by riding it out.

Maintaining your composure during these attacks is another key to deal with panic attacks. You will have to focus your mind on something other than your problems that cause these attacks. You can achieve this by learning some relaxation techniques, which involves proper breathing technique and mind focus techniques. Practicing Yoga and Meditation are the perfect options to inculcate the above mentioned relaxation techniques.

Change your unhealthy lifestyle....

Adopting a healthy lifestyle will definitely help you deal with panic attacks effectively. This involves following a balanced diet, cutting down on inorganic food items and habits that endanger your well-being. Incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your meals and avoid fried and oily food items. Keep yourself away from cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, coffee, excess sugar and other stimulants. This is because nicotine, caffeine and stimulants can aggravate the possibility of panic attacks. You should also maintain a strict exercise regime, and it is better if you go for morning walks and jogging. Getting enough sleep plays a major role in relaxing yourself and maintaining composure, whereby you can deal with panic attacks effectively.

Panik attacks have a lot to do with the way you think,e.g; your outlook on life.Your mental state is strongly connected to your physical state, so when your continuiously worrying you work your self up. The more you worry about it the more severe the panic attack will be, so your only option is to change your thought pattern. Whenever you get a negative/worrying thought in your head just block it out and think of something more positive or nothing at all. This takes time so you have to be patient but the more you practice this the more you'll start to see a change. I've had panik attacks for about 2 years and it's improving slowly but surely and this technique works for me. I think my panik attacks stem from me being shy and not being able to socialise properly, but i'm very good at facing my fears and have noticed that my confidence has risen dramatically. Also everything it says on here about keeping to a healthy diet and just being more oraganised. I hope this helps, all the best :)

A personal experience...

It can be really embarrassing and terrifying when you go through an episode of panic attack in public. It is as if you are going in for a heart attack and you start sweating and breathing heavily - in short you look helpless in front of a large crowd. Your attack might be triggered by many factors physical, emotional or mental; but the end result is the same. You lose control of your temper, become perplexed and have a sense of impending death. You may even experience these attacks multiple times, severely hampering your social and family commitments.
If you are one of the unfortunate victims of this disorder, fear not...help is at hand! This article would teach you how to cope with panic attacks and most importantly not let it take over your life.

Steps to Deal with Panic Attacks

Should be followed rigorously....

The first step is to realize that you are suffering from the symptoms of a panic attack and this is not an easy thing to do. Panic disorders can manifest in many different ways in different individuals. Having someone close to you could be advantageous in that they could observe if you are behaving in a way that is out of your character. Sometimes, panic attacks can be triggered by certain events or stressful situations, in which case avoidance of these can form part of the management strategy.

Cigarette smoking and coffee are powerful stimulants and should be avoided as they could set off an attack. In many cases, people often find certain relaxation techniques and breathing exercises useful in treating an active attack. Likewise, exercise can relax your mind and reduce stress and anxiety levels. During an attack, it is important not to let the thoughts take over your mind... learn how to control your fears. Identify those who are closest around you who could offer you support. I often advise people to draw a diagram with them at the center linking up with sources of support at the periphery. That way, if circumstances change or you feel you are not coping, you could easily identify if there is something amiss in your social network.

Most importantly, do not feel trapped by your own body...respond to events appropriately as they arise. Dwell in the knowledge that these attacks would eventually pass and leave you unharmed. Sufferers often attach feelings of self blame to the actions they carried out as a result of their attacks, but it is vital that none of these is your fault. Do not keep putting yourself down...it would take time to deal with these issues and there are many support groups out there who could help.
