Stress comes from a painful situation and people cannot deal with it right away. It's usually triggering a feeling of not being able to do what's needed, or not knowing what to do to remedy the situation. This by itself triggers more stress and it's easily starting a viscious circle of stress reinforcing stress.

How Stress Affects Your Wellbeing
Stress can be measured scientifically by different means:
One scietific stress measurement system is the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale to rate stressful life events. (See special text block further down)
When we are under stress our blood pressure and the galvanic (electircal) skin response changes. This can also be measured to test changes in stress levels.
A digital thermometer can be used to evaluate changes in skin temperature, which can indicate activation of the fight or flight response drawing blood away from the extremities.
