When I was eleven, a girl of my own age, Betty Jean Necessary, was tragically murdered while walking in the woods. I was so traumatized that I no longer indulged in my favorite pastime of exploring without great fear. Years later, I decided it was time to broaden the size of my back porch. I drove to parks and other places of interests. Following my instincts and inner wisdom, not only did I feel safe, I found that each aspect of nature had a wonderful story to share. Please enjoy reading Deb's Back Porch Tales.

Welcome to Debbie Dunn's Cry In The Wilderness Poetry & Prose Series Published By Triond.com. As a teenager, I had bottled up my tears. Since I couldn't cry, this poetry cried for me and consoled me when I was done.

This constituted my unspoken desire to be unfettered by limitations, and touched on my deep longing to have a true friend.
I'm Me

Inspired by hearing Sing-Out Kingsport, a branch group of Up With People. The message that they brought out seemed to reflect so closely what I felt. I later became a member for two and a half years.
People

This poem was written when I was in the eighth grade. The year was 1972. The reason for it is self-explanatory.
My Refuge

Starting to grow cynical, I wrote the following poem when I was in the tenth grade. The year was 1974.
Laugh. It's Funny

The following four poems are a record of my so-called "first love" which lasted from December 3, 1973 through January 9, 1974. I was a high school sophomore and he was a senior. Later, I realized the truth. I was in love with the idea of being in love and not really in love with him.
First Love

The year was 1969. My longing to not be tied down to limitations set my soul free. It could be likened to a baby taking its first step.
Rose, Rose, Come To Me

The following poem was written one day in my seventh-grade English class when I felt inspired. The year was 1971.
The Perfect World

As a young girl, I strived to find out what was the true meaning of freedom. What does freedom mean to you?

Freedom

As a young girl of fourteen, there were so many things that made me afraid. Writing poetry helped bring me heart-ease.
Afraid

This was written on a day when everything that possibly could have gone wrong - went wrong. But not wanting people to get down because of my down . . .
Alas
