What's for Breakfast?

They call it the most important meal of the day and its a great place to start saving money. Do you stop at Mickey D's or Starbucks on the way to work? Breakfast sandwich and coffee? If so, you're probably dropping about $4 - that's $20 a week! The same meal at home costs less than a buck.

Getting to Work

If you live 10 miles from work and drive your own car, it costs you at least $25 every day! Carpool, take public transportation - or if the weather's nice, ride a bike or walk.

Fast Food is Whack!

A family meal in a nice restaurant once in awhile is great, but our daily obsession with fast food is nuts. We don't need it, our kids don't need it and our rear ends don't need it. And its expensive!

Feeling Lucky? You're not!

Come on, people! You already know this, but it's worth saying one more time: state-sponsored gambling is no different from any other kind - you're never going to win. Stop throwing your money away on the lottery!

Are You a Cable Slave?

Just because your cable company offers collegiate bowling in the middle of the night doesn't mean you're going to watch it. In fact, you're not going to watch more than 5 of the channels they offer, so why pay for the other 250?
You might even try turning the TV off once in awhile. After all, what's going to mean more to your kids? Another episode of "Survivor" or you reading aloud from Harry Potter and using all your funny voices?
Reduce your Cable Package - Annual Savings: At least $650
Love Your Cell Phone? Lose Your Land Line!

I wouldn't dream of asking you to get rid of your cell phone, but how about the land line? If you live and work in an area with good cell coverage, why do you need both? You don't!

Still smoking? You should quit because you love your family, but if that doesn't do it for you, consider this: a 40-year-old with a pack-a-day habit who quits and puts her cigarette money into an account earning 9% will have $250,000 when she's 70.
