The 2012 Phenomenon

There has been much buzz behind the 2012 Doomsday predictions of late as the year 2012 moves closer. Recently, Hollywood has cashed in on the inflating publicity generated by the interest around the 2012 phenomenon by releasing the 2012 movie. This is perhaps a majority of people's nightmare of what will materialize come the 21st of December, 2012; however, there is in the scheme of things plenty of mystery over the unknown scenarios that are likely going to occur.

What is the Real Fuss behind the 2012 Prophecy?

The true prediction in regards to the 2012 prophecy originated on 3 credible sources of information- The book of Nostradamus, the Mayan Calendar and the Book of Revelations. All three declare in certain degree to a Doomsday, Day of Reckoning or armageddon. The Mayan Calendar is in reality, the only source that directly makes the prediction that these events will occur in December 2012. More accurately the Mayan long count Calendar forecasts that in 21 December, 2012, the Armageddon will happen.

The Mayan society is highly reputed for being one of the most great civilizations of the ancient world along with the Romans and Sumerians. They were notorious to be truly developed in various disciplines such as astronomy, engineering and agriculture. The Mayan civilization had various short calendars that they would use for things such as agriculture and astrological acts. The Mayan Calendar divised time into various time sequences similar to the currently used Lunar Calendar. 1 year was identified as a Haab, while the smallest unit of time was 14 days, which was recognized as a Tzolkin. The Mayan long count calendar goes for thousands of years and is pronounced to end in December 21, 2012. When contrasted to the currently used Lunar Calendar, scientists believe that the Mayan Calendar is actually very precise, with only a thirty second discrepancy regarding the 2 calendars.

As the year 2012 moves closer, no one actually knows what will happen come December 21, 2012. However, it is completely logical and likely that the ancient Mayan civilization prophecised an apocalypse that could have damaging effects on mankind. Could it be probable that this is when the end of the world may occur? Or is it perhaps the beginning of a new age where the rise of Christ or even the Antichrist may emerge? We will have to wait and see.
