Decision Points - a Book by George W. Bush

Ranked #4,083 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #153,626 overall | Donates to Donors Choose

How would the book end if Osama (Usama) Bin Laden was killed and pronounced dead before President Bush finished writing it?

Now that special forces, the CIA, the Navy Seals, have killed Osama Bin Laden, you have to wonder what George W. Bush would write in his memoir, "Decision Points" if he were to write a closing chapter today. The book was released in November, 2010, was on Amazon's number 1 best sellers list before it was released and quite a while after. I enjoyed watching George W. Bush promote his book on Shawn Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Greta Van Sustern, and many other talk shows after the book was released. What does George Bush have to say about Vice President Cheney? And what about how he handled Hurricane Katrina, or the events after 9/11? What made him make the decisions he did? Did he regret any?

He stepped out of the National spotlight when his Presidency ended, which was, perhaps, a relief to some...but I can't say it was to me. I always wondered what it must be like to carry the weight of a responsibility like 9/11/01, to send men to war knowing some would not return, handle a crisis like Katrina, face a failing economy, one thing after another it seemed...and now through his new book, I look forward to finding out. I am also thankful the mission he started under his administration has been completed, with no shortage of appreciation for the role President Obama and our military leaders under his administration have played.

In the video below, President Bush explains how he approached writing his Memoirs in a way that is a bit different from what one would expect from such a book...and because of that approach, we will learn what it was like to walk in his shoes through experiences like those mentioned above.

Please read on...I've given you a few places to share your thoughts, and would love to hear them.

I'm planning to read the book or have read it, and here's what I think:

BSieracki says:

i'll put it on my list, i might get to to in about ten years.

TheresaMarkham says:

This is the first memoir in a while that I'm really looking forward to reading cover-to-cover!

Mrmakingusmile says:

It should be an interesting read.

tssfacts says:

I haven't read the book yet but would like to.

BarbRad says:

I am always interested in why people make the decisions they do, especially when they did things I didn't expect them to do -- decisions that puzzled me.

capriliz says:

I plan to read the book. I want to read what our former President Bush has to say about some of the tough choices he made during his presidency.

I don't plan to read the book, and here's why:

annel says:

can not imagine myself wasting my time on this...

Serenia says:

I dont need tro read about the decisions he made. I see the results in the world around me and they are NOT PRETTY.
- A WORLDWIDE recession with high unemployment - because Bush gave tax breaks to corporations to take their jobs offshore. No jobs in Usa means no sales which means lost jobs which gets passed along to other businesses - its a vicious cyle.
- Illegal immigration - getting worse because Bush REFUSES to say NO to the corporations who lobby to be able to continue using illegal labour (cheaper labour mneans huge profits for shareholders)
- Invasion of other countries - because Bush decides to make preemptive strikes and steal their oil to pay for the war. Usa still does not have control of the oil. and When Bush chose to stay another vietnam was created.
- New Orleans destroyed because Bush dithers and cant decide - so he does nothing for 5 days while the city is destroyed.
- gives out money to the banks to bail them out and then wonders why the economy has not recovered. So he gives out more money in more bailouts. Instead it all goes into the rich bankers bank accounts.
- no child left behind - a dismal failure in education

This book brings to life the critical decisions made by President George W. Bush while he was in office.

If you haven't read the book, do you plan to?

I wouldn't buy this book but it would be nice to see him answer a lot of questions...

As I mentioned in the debate above, I'm in the process of reading Decision Points and I can hardly put it down. It's nice to read the inside story of history that I've lived through, through the eyes of the man who helped make it all happen. I've always thought I'd like to sit and chat with President Bush. Now I know I would.
  • tssfacts Oct 26, 2010 @ 7:22 am | delete
Good article. It should keep us thinking what went right and what went wrong.
  • BarbRad Oct 26, 2010 @ 1:38 am | delete
I'm curious about what made this president tick and his motivations. It's always easy to criticize a president when you've never had to walk in his shoes. I don't think any president gets it all right. Some are just more right than others.
  • capriliz Oct 25, 2010 @ 11:57 am | delete
To add to my earlier comment, I would like to read President Bush's book to understand what happened during the Hurricane Katrina crisis.
  • capriliz Oct 25, 2010 @ 7:20 am | delete
Sorry, I still remember some of the messes that are a result of the terms served by the previous President.
