Is Composite Decking the Best Decking Material?

Big advertising dollars have been spent to persuade home improvement consumers to believe that composite decking material has no maintenance and has the longest life expectancy.

If you do some searching on Google for "Composite Decking Complaints" or "Composite Decking Problems" you may find enough complaints to keep you busy for hours. You can also take any major brand name of composite decking and add the word complaints or problems at the end of your Google search and you will find all kinds of comments and pictures from unhappy composite deck owners.

The truth is that most composite deck material has not been thoroughly tested but it has been thoroughly marketed. That's why most home owners think composite decking is a great choice.  Many people are also lured in by the long warranties these companies offer. If you do some research on the warranty issues you will see that some of the biggest names in composite decking have class action lawsuits because they don't stand behind their warranty. After realizing their products does not hold up like they promised, some composite decking companies end up shutting down their company and then open a new company under a different name, then they don't have to deal with the warranty issues when their product fails.

If you are looking for a low maintenance deck that will last up to 40 years, then you should consider a hardwood deck that is made out of Ipe, Tigerwood, Cumaru or Garapa.  Ipe decking, Tigerwood decking, Cumaru Decking, and Garapa Decking are some of the hardest and most durable decking materials available.

Is Composite Decking Maintenance Free?

If you ask me this is more work and hassle than a traditional wood deck. Maybe after you get your 2 year degree on Composite Deck Maintenance you will realize that you should have just installed a natural hardwood deck material like Ipe Decking or Tigerwood Decking!

Horrible product and horrible customer service. Our deck is crumbling and moldy and they will not reimburse us to replace it. DON'T BUY TREX! Go to Trex Decking Sucks to discuss your issues about Trex, upload photos or to find out the problems thousands of consumers are having with this bad product.

What's composite decking made of?

Most composite decking is made of reclaimed wood fibers and reclaimed plastic bottles and other various plastic scraps. In other words basically composite decking is made from garbage that could not be used else where. If your decking material is made out of garbage what kind of results do you think you will get when you put it on your house?
