Using bold color to accent your home.
Red is a vibrant and exciting color, but for many it's a little bit frightening to use red because of its boldness. You may be thinking you'd like to decorate using red, but have no idea where to start. Or, how much red to use. I'm here to help!
With this lens, I hope to ease your fears about using red. We'll start with baby steps and in the end you might even have red paint on the walls!

Red Inspiration

I like to make inspiration boards to get the creative juices flowing. I'll use these to continue with a decorating theme or in this case color, so that I have something to look back at when I'm lacking motivation or ideas.
Let's start with accents
A little can go a long way.
The easiest way to begin adding red to your room is with accents. Drapes, throw pillows and lamps are plentiful and often inexpensive. You can try them out and if you don't like the look, return them and try something else.Art work is also a great accent. You can place multiple small red pieces of wall art, red plates, vinyl wall art or one big red piece. The advantage to a large red piece of wall art is that it may give you and idea of what the walls would look like if they were painted in a similar color (without having to do the painting!). You can do the same by covering a wall with many red-colored pieces.
Keeping it simple

You can put it in your own home!

Time to paint it red!
You've added red elements to your decor and like how it it looks. Moreover, you're not scared of color anymore and your ready to go big! Let's paint the room red! Now, a word of advice: if you paint the room red, don't go overboard on the red accents (unless the Valentine Suite at the Hilton is the look you're going for). It will be way too much and you will discover why people are afraid of red.
Also, red paint takes at least 3 coats of paint and will dry much darker than the color you see when you first start painting!
If you're going to paint your room red, I would suggest using contrasting accents in the colors of white, black or tan (for a softer look). If you really like bold color and contrasts, try a little peacock green in the mix!
A great color combo!

More help getting your color scheme together.......
Sometimes it helps to look through books and get ideas of color arrangements with furniture and architecture. These books are great and have a lot of examples.
Use these beautiful fabrics to add to your decor!
I love to sew my own throw pillows and curtains, so that my room has a very personal touch. I frequently buy my fabric on ebay because they really do have a great selection and I have found some AMAZING deals on bolts of silk and other designer fabrics.
I've taken some time to look for fabrics that would be great for pillows and curtains in a red-themed room. I hope these will help inspire your design!!!!
