I need your advice about my lampshade?

From the lens Create A Custom Lampshade.

OK all you crafty people out there, is my lampshade finished? If you think I am not finished decorating lampshades at my house, give me ideas. Please! (you do not have to be a member of Squidoo to make a suggestion)

Don't forget to sign my "Guest Book" further down the page. Thanks.

It needs something around the edges to finish it off. I don't know the decor of your room but in my house suede or leather strips would work great

I'm not too crafty, but I was grabbed by the cut up book shade at the top! Cool looking! Thank you!

Thanks for the compliment. That shade was created by me.

What a fun way to spice up a lampshade :)

Not quite finished. I'd add some graphic element to tie the frames together. I suspect you'll continue doing these fun lampshades.

I agree with you, I am not quite finished with that shade.

I'm really impressed with your decoration skills and your tutorials. You make it look easier to make a plain shade complete.

This is such a helpful lens, Mickie! My MIL used to cover lampshades but they looked too ornate for my taste, if you know what I mean. Tassels and heavy fabric. I love your lighter touch, and might have to try one myself! Great lens.

Well I have been following you and I love your lenses and this one is a particular favourite as decorating is something that I really enjoy

Really awesome craft idea! I love the finished look with the old dictionary pages. Makes me want to find an old map and go to work! Really neat! Blessed

What a great idea! Our last movers broke every single one of our lampshades...this gives Mum some great ideas to fix 'em up! Thanks!

    Great idea and helpful photos.
Just my 2 cents as a decorator: You might want to consider adding a gimp or similar type of trim on the edges (glue guns are great for this) to give it a more finished look - but that's just a matter of taste. It looks like you have a hobnail glass lamp base, so even a small bobble or pom-pom fringe around the bottom (to echo the raised round "bumps" on the base) would tie it together a little more, IMHO. (See Guest Book.)

Thanks for the suggestion. I have some trim that I have been considering. Will take a photo when I actually embellish this shade.

Mickie~This is an awesome idea...I ordered new lamps for our new house and the shades are not ivory, as listed, but gold. Yuck. Instead of sending them back, I'm going to avoid the hassle by doing just what you did! I have several antiques in the room and decided an aged look would be better than the 1970's golden color against my tan walls. I have a ton of old, yellowed (aged, not gold) sheet music from my father in-law. Thought this would look great in our music/library room. I'd like to know if there is any problem with the heat affecting the glue or paper? The bulb is 100 watts and the shade is round and rather big. Do you think any kind of sealer should be used? Thanks again for the idea. Pictures were perfect! Anyone else out there have additional ideas for my sheet music shade idea? Would love suggestions. K.

My daughter is a whiz in this... She wants a Princess Aurora lampshade so she bought an umbrella and took off the material then put in on our old lampshade plus she changed the bulb into bright red. Creative right? I'm definitely gonna share this with her today. Bookmarked it too! All Tex Exteriors

What a creative idea. I think using a red bulb is a really great idea!

I really enjoyed the look of the shade when lit. And the detailed picture instructions were great too. You have me thinking....I need to get away from the computer and do something crafty!

I like your gallery photo idea for the tutorial. I am stringing everything in a scroll down. I made my newest with a page break. The last tutorial is lamp repair. I will tie this into it with lensroll and link. Perfect!

Just a suggestion for those looking to custom make their lamp shade with their own material, there is a website www.Lampshadeshop.com that lets you send your own materials and they will make the shade for you at a great price. They do maps, logos, designer fabrics etc. I've used them for small projects in the past.

If you add some more color in it, it will look more attractive.

I really like the look of this, but I think it needs a bit of color for pop. Maybe use a sophicated looking ribbon or edging for the top and bottom in a severe color like black would make this look even more stylish.

Hi Mickie ~ Being 'brand spanking new' to Squidoo, just posted my 1st lens this evening, this lens of yours is the 1st one I've looked at. Having spent nearly 20yrs as an Interior Designer and all of my life enjoying crafts & everything 'Domestic Diva-ish', this lens caught my attention. It is a great project & shows me that so much more can be done with these lenses. Now I just have to figure it all out. Thanks for the inspiration! Laurie
