What a wonderfully novel idea! I think I'm going to buy a plain lampshade especially so I can decorate it! Great lens! Blessed. :)

Oh heck, now I want to go outside and spray paint the base of an old lamp, and play with the shade, you have really inspired me :)

I had a lampshade in which the shade had separated from the metal ring at the top. I took red ribbon and stitched the ring back on using a large blanket stitch. I then left the two ends hanging down and attached small jingle bells to them. It looked like I did it on purpose, not as a repair.

Sooo fun! I've been just dying to get a glue gun so that I can attempt crafty things like this!

If you like your lamp, and just want to change or re-furbish your shade, you can always try the folks at FenchelShades.com. They let you send in your own fabric (to match your curtains, or accent pillows, etc.) and they'll apply your fabric to a shade in any size you want.

I love your lamp shade. I have a lamp in my living room that I've been wanting to make a shade for. You've given me ideas.
  • tssfacts Dec 8, 2010 @ 10:14 am | delete
I have updated my lampshades with fabric before. It was fun to do and I think I used hot glue gun to attach it to the shade.
  • RitaK Nov 13, 2010 @ 7:37 pm | delete
Such a great lens! You have gotten me contemplating on how I can update my lampshades. Holiday themes would be fun!

You know, I honestly hadn't thought about remodeling a lampshade, but this is a great idea. You could customize with fabric from the curtains too for a formal look and then go wild with the kids bedroom ideas. Love this!

What a cool idea! I have a lampshade which is the wrong color to match the lamp and room so I need to do something too. My lampshade is textured though, like the material is pleated so I don't know that this will work for me. Humm. Maybe if I use a LOT of decoupage it might work. I really like your dictionary idea.
  • Sylvestermouse May 12, 2010 @ 8:44 am | delete
What a great idea! This is the one craft project I have always hesitated to jump into. I fear I would do something that would end up burning down my house :)
  • NaturalMindset Mar 19, 2010 @ 9:01 pm | delete
Such great ideas, I might make a lampshade hat!
  • arncyn Jan 15, 2010 @ 12:35 pm | delete
Congratulations on your purple star, Mickie! This is a wonderful tutorial, I will definitely remodel one of our old lampshades using your tips (now that I know that it can be done) (: *angel blessed* too

Really love your lampshade with the Webster's Dictionary! Wonderful for a library or reading area, and the "masthead" centered on it is a great touch.

    Great ideas!
    Congratulations on Graduating RocketMom!

This is a great idea! I am not a crafty person but this looks like something I would love to do.
  • Ramkitten Sep 29, 2009 @ 12:44 pm | delete
What a neat idea, using the old dictionary, and great tips. This would really perk up a room with lots of white shades.
  • sandyspider Sep 28, 2009 @ 11:28 pm | delete
Very crafty. I will have to try your idea.
  • WindyWinters Sep 28, 2009 @ 3:57 pm | delete
Great Craft Idea! Your lamp turned out quite well. I was going to try it on an old lamp but oops, senior's moment...I don't remember what I did with the lamp! I remember it had a nice maple base, too. :)
  • blue22d Sep 28, 2009 @ 12:25 pm | delete
Love your lens. I have always wanted to redo a shade but felt I would not do well. I was always afraid of the glue showing through the shade. If I did one, I would probably try fabric first. Great job. ***** and a favorite to my lens: a>. I will want to try your lens later.
  • capriliz Sep 28, 2009 @ 11:29 am | delete
Thanks for featuring my Tie Dye Kits, Tips, and Techniques lens! You make it look so easy to decorate lampshades. I am going to try some of your suggestions.
