Only got one tree, but I absolutely love these ideas. I just went to Paris this year and would have loved to decorate my tree in Paris decor. Instead it's decorated in small wooden ornaments I got in Germany's Black Forest. Great lens!

Only the one tree this year... however, nothing beats the cleanup of a miniature tree!

I voted animals, but my theme is animals, people and produce! Its wonderful
  • noobeegin Dec 3, 2010 @ 5:24 am | delete
Ialways put out a tiny tree with teeny tiny ornaments. Don't be afraid to use tiny colored trees for other holidays as well. Last year I used tiny red glitter trees and turned them into valentine trees. They were really sweet.
  • terrapin719 Dec 1, 2010 @ 4:08 am | delete
love the mini tree idea! Our only tree is a mini tree because we're limited on space right now in this place, but I can see my kids enjoying having their own mini trees in the future when we finally get that much needed space to spread out!

We have 5 trees. The foo foo tree, the gardening tree, the Victorian tree, the travel tree and my child's tree that he does on his own. Lensrolling this to my themed tree lens. Great info here.

What a cute idea! I'm on it! We can totally pull that off - I have so many set of unusually colored balls - left over from my home staging days. Fun themes, too.

I love your idea!! I was just thinking about doing exactly that this year. Instead of getting a huge tree, just buy two or three small ones and put them around the house.... Brilliant!

  • Jimmie Oct 29, 2010 @ 12:09 am | delete
I like tiny trees. Sometimes (okay, most of the time) people really over-do Christmas. Keep it simple and keep the focus where it should be.
  • NaturalMindset Oct 28, 2010 @ 9:38 am | delete
I like to decorate a small tree each year to take to someone who would otherwise not have any Christmas cheer. These are lovely ideas!
  • OhMe Oct 27, 2010 @ 4:09 am | delete
Great ideas for decorating a small themed Christmas Tree. I usually have one in my office that I call my Nature Tree and it is filled with birds, plants and anything Nature.
  • KarenCookieJar Oct 25, 2010 @ 6:47 pm | delete
Small trees are so much cuter then big ones, also they are so easy to pack away with the decorations on and so you don't have to re-decorate every year.
  • dustytoes Oct 22, 2010 @ 10:26 am | delete
I barely have room for one tree, but you have lots of great theme suggestions here! I would decorate my tree in seashells.
  • StephenC Oct 16, 2010 @ 10:52 pm | delete
I'm also doing a bird themed tree. Great lens!
  • jgelien Oct 9, 2010 @ 5:15 pm | delete
I have several little tiny decorated trees for Christmas and I enjoy finding new microscopic ornaments for them every year. Thanks for the small tree finds.
  • DecoratingforEvents Oct 9, 2010 @ 6:22 pm | delete
I've seen those too. They are really easy to find places for during the holidays. Thanks for stopping by!
  • Barkely Sep 30, 2010 @ 1:14 pm | delete
We always have several trees decked out for the holidays. One main tree, then several smaller trees in window sills (we have wide ones) and on counter tops. It's to fun, I can't just have one:-)

I usually put up a mini tree also. I use gold bells, gold metal colored ornaments, some little Christmas mice and misc ornaments that just wouldn't go on the big tree. Great lens by the way. Christmas will be here before we know it! :)
  • ElizabethJeanAllen Sep 25, 2010 @ 5:54 am | delete
I like the idea of a themed Christmas tree. We have the big tree in the living room, but a little one just for my Angels and Snowflakes in the family room would be nice.
    Thanks,
    Lizzy

Very cute! I have some Disney-maniac friends who have a second tree decorated ONLY with Disney-themed ornaments! Too much for me, but still cute!
  • mbgphoto Sep 14, 2010 @ 8:39 am | delete
Wonderful lens. I have a small tree with ornaments from my parents Christmas Tree farm. It is always special to pull it out and look at the dated ornaments they sold each year.
You have given some great ideas for small trees. Blessed.
  • DecoratingforEvents Sep 14, 2010 @ 8:46 am | delete
Thank you! A Christmas tree farm? How cool is that?! I think small trees are so versatile and let you go with more than one theme. I especially like it when they are about family or friends and evoke memories like yours.
  • The_Health_Lady Sep 13, 2010 @ 2:09 pm | delete
I love Christmas & our tress is a mixture of home made & store bought ornaments. My favorites are the ones that got while living in Hawaii made out of banana leaves, shells & coconut shells.
  • DecoratingforEvents Sep 14, 2010 @ 8:52 am | delete
Mine are a mixture too! I know my mom has a few ornaments we collected while living on Guam that sound like yours. I am adding a tropical small tree to my collection this year (especially since we moved to late Florida last year). Thanks for stopping by!
  • CCGAL Sep 13, 2010 @ 12:04 am | delete
Oh, gosh ... we haven't put up a tree for a long time ... we've either been moving or somebody's been in the hospital or we've been packing for a trip ... but I really like the idea of themed trees so maybe this year we'll do something along these lines. I'd have voted musical, if that had been in the list on your poll. I voted books, and my 3rd choice would be knit/crochet. I enjoyed this lens very much!
  • DecoratingforEvents Sep 14, 2010 @ 8:47 am | delete
Guess I should have included more options! LOL

  • Wednesday_Elf Sep 12, 2010 @ 2:03 pm | delete
What clever and original ideas you have found ... and used .... for the Christmas Tree decorating themes of your small trees. I've always just had one main tree... and its decor changed over the years, but always included the 'special' ornaments that are the 'stuff of memories', until my children grew up.

My daughter was born one week before Christmas and her Godmother began using the occasion of her birthday for the first 10 years to send her a very special 'ornament' each year. Today my grown-up girl has HER ornaments in her home and many other 'special' ornaments went to the homes (and Christmas Trees) of each of my children. As 'Empty-Nesters, we then needed to 'fill in' some holes, and changed our Christmas theme to another favorite - ocean & sea-related ornaments. I am lensrolling this to my "Reflections of the Sea ornaments lens. Thank you for all the wonderful tree decorating ideas presented here.
  • DecoratingforEvents Sep 14, 2010 @ 8:49 am | delete
(My husband's b-day is the day after Christmas and his brother's is Christmas eve!)

I like your theme. My baby will leave home next. I'll have to wait and see if we change up the big tree or not...
  • TheWhistler Sep 12, 2010 @ 12:14 pm | delete
My families very first Christmas tree was a little one, we couldn't afford anything else, We just had large white snowball ornaments on it, no lights. As the years went on we collected ornaments and eventually lights. As our fortune grew we could afford a larger tree, but all insisted that nothing be take from the little tree to be placed on the other. The little tree always had pride of place.
  • DecoratingforEvents Sep 12, 2010 @ 12:19 pm | delete
What a wonderful story! It gave me goosebumps! We recently went through some hard times and sold almost everything to start over. The one thing I would not get rid of was the decor for our main Christmas tree. Every little ornament and decoration is a part of our journey as a family. So glad I kept them! Thanks for commenting!
