Often the most effective way of working with mismatched furniture is to use a more subtle approach, keeping at least something similar between the pieces, unless you are striving for a totally eclectic approach.

Decorating with mismatched furniture pieces can be a very economical way of decorating. You can find many good pieces at flea markets, garage sales, and second hand stores. If you find a good piece of furniture that you really like but which you feel is just a little too different for your room, you could always add a slipcover or a fresh coat of paint to blend it in with the rest of your decor.
