Decorative Mirror Home Accents

There's nothing like decorative mirrors to accent your home decor! For generations, designers have used mirrors to visually expand the size of a room, to highlight decorative accents of the room, and to brighten room by bounding the light around.

Professional designers love mirrors. I've seen top 10 lists of decorating mistakes where NOT using mirrors was their #1 no-no.

I've long appreciated what mirrors can do and want to share some of the interesting ways you can use them to enhance your decor --  as well as the sources for these unique and distintive mirrors.

Mirrors incorporated into functional accents

Mirrors don't have to be strictly mirrors. This mirrored coat rack is a sparkling example of that.

This coat rack combines fine-furniture quality craftsmanship into a durable wall-hanging coat rack done with:

  • Solid oak construction

  • Hand-rubbed finish that brings out the beauty of the grain

  • Brass and porcelain coat hooks

  • Sparkling, hand-selected mirror

  • Grooved plate rack on top

You can hang it in your entryway as an eye-catching accent when visitors enter your home.

Or, rather than using it for guests to hang their hats and coats on, you can gather vintage hats and clothing and drape them elegantly on the hooks for a unique and distinctive display that will set your room apart.

And for an added touch, you can get your mirror etched with a wide variety of popular themes.

Etched mirrors

Mirrors can do more than just reflect the room around them. They can also add their own unique accents to your room.

Etched mirrors, in the past, were not much more than silhouettes. Traditional sand-blasting techniques limited the artist's ability to control the etch and achieve the depth and shading you get in an artwork or a photograph.

Fortunately, the days of relying solely on sand-blasting techniques for etching are behind us. New methods, such as the chemical etch that created the hummingbird etching to your right make it possible to recreate a fine artwork or even a photograph in high-definition etching that captures all the depth and shading of the original image.

This gives you the ability to have an etching that captures any image in amazing clarity on mirror or glass for a truly eye-catching accent for your home.

With sizes that fit in small, hard to decorate spaces, all the way up to sizes that can fill the space over a sofa or mantle, you can bring the light-multiplying and space-expanding advantages of mirrors to any wall that needs an accent. And you can couple those advantages with the beauty of fine artwork in your favorite themes etched permanently on your mirror.

Or, for a special touch, you can create an attractive grouping of etched mirrors to fill larger spaces on your walls. Group similar shapes of framed mirrors, or mix frame styles between different types of rectangular, oval, octagon, and even heart-shaped mirrors to create a truly eye-catching grouping.

Mirror strips

Have more of a modernistic taste in style? Consider a set of mirror strips.

This set of decorative mirror strips combines classic design with modernistic feel.

Each of the four strips in the set measures 4" wide by 40" tall. The non-beveled edges give them a clean, simple, classic look. Their unconventional division into four, individual panels makes them feel right at home in any contemporary setting

Place them on any wall and watch them visually brighten and expand your room.

One-of-a-Kind, Photo Etched Mirrors

You can add a truly personal touch with a mirror etched with a favorite photograph, like the example wedding photo shown here.

This 15" x 15" mirror heart-shaped mirror in a solid ash hardwood frame will be an unforgettable treasure for anyone to whom you give it as a gift. Or it will bring a smile to your face if you get it for yourself, every time you see it and remember the special memory behind the photo, now captured in elegant, frosty etching.

And you can get them in a variety of frame styles besides just hearts. Oval, octagon, and rectangular frames are available, too -- all in solid hardwood frames with a hand-rubbed finish.

I love the mirrors with oak framing. The multi-functional addition of a coat rack makes it a perfect addition to an entrance way or hallway. Thanks for the info!
