The Golden Mean and it's self-similar subdivisions constitute the underlying matrix of all my landscape designs.  It's an efficient way to divide a plane with no remainder... no "extra" unwanted areas... and always a series of points of interest attempting to create a flow for the viewer to move into the picture with.  Abstract painting is another "way" of accomplishing this, although seemingly at odds with the planning and engineering of Golden Mean oriented designs.  Proportion can unfold beautifully and spontaneously without too much planning, but I find that a balance of mathematical precision along with a casual approach results in the most interesting work.

Architectural Modules

Every individual 'thing' in this painting is sized and positioned according to a seven-level Phi iteration beginning with the width of 34" and culminating with a harmonized smallest measure of about 1 1/8". Essentially the series of sizing "modules" is always a Fibonacci series - just scaled to fit the maximum width of the work in progress. Egyptian temples were designed in this way... all components in harmony.

This painting is available as a 34" x 23" poster on cafepress.com as well as on mugs, greeting cards and more!

Golden Proportions

Guarantee Harmonious Flow..

Each "cut" or division of a line or plane, will always fit perfectly (and be in harmony with all other elements) as long as you accurately shrink each succesive iteration by 61.8% and work within a Golden Rectangle for your layout. Perspective is not even needed to create depth when one uses the Golden "Sweet Spot" of any two extremes.
