Sinfully Delectable Deep Fried Burgers
My husband saw a TV show about deep fried hamburgers and just had to have one. The show spotlighted Dyer's in Memphis Tennessee. Since we live in Minnesota, that seemed like a long way to go for a hamburger.
So, I went online in search of a recipe and instructions on just how to make these artery clogging burgers. After a wee bit of trial and error, I was able to make deep fried burgers that are amazingly delicious. Since we've never actually eaten a Dyer's burger, I don't claim that these are the same, but they sure are yummy!
A hamburger by any other name costs twice as much.

The Secret Is The Seasoning
Deep Fried Burger Recipe

Deep Fried Hamburgers are very easy to make, but seasoning the meat is essential to getting the flavor just right. I searched the web for Dyer's recipe and got a variety of results, so I had to play around with the ingredients a bit to get the best flavor possible.
Every recipe I found called for onion soup mix, I tried that, but we found the burgers too salty to eat. So I substituted one small grated onion and got the wonderful onion flavor without all that salt. Grated onion is fantastic, because it creates a juicy onion pulp that mixes well with ground beef.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion ~ grated
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 egg
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 shakes each: seasoned salt & black pepper
Instructions
Mix all ingredients together while oil heats in a Wok or deep frying pan.
Season hot oil with Garlic powder & Montreal Steak seasoning
Prepare buns by putting a dollop of Ketchup & mustard, 2 pickle slices and one thin slice of onion on the bottom of each bun.
Prepared burger by forming patties that are twice the size of the bun in diameter and about 1/4-1/3 inch thick. Place bun bottoms, bun tops & cheese slices near frying pan. Until you get the hang of it, it is best to cook one burger at a time.
Using a metal spatula gently place the formed burger in the hot seasoned oil. (these burgers cook fast) Cook for about 1 minute, then gently flip burger in oil and cook for another minute. Lift burger out of oil & place cheese slice on burger. Quickly dip & lift burger & cheese in & then out of oil. Place bun top on cheese, then hold sideways over oil & let some of the grease drip off. Place bun bottom on the burger side & put on a plate.
Watch the Dyer's videos to see how it's done.

It sounds great. What i did last night was take a regular old premade cheeseburger from the fast food joint and deep fried the whole thing. The bread comes out crispy. It's pretty good. Make sure you use a paper towel to get the excess oil out of the bun.

Great lens. Actually, until I watched the video I was almost hooked. But, to watch the video, this greasy spoon lover just couldn't take it, just too much grease even for me. And i don't think my doctor would approve at all. But a really, really great lens! Loved it!

"I'm not telling you, 'Never eat a hamburger.' Just eat the good ones with real beef, you know, like the ones from that mom-and-pop diner down the street, ... And it's so good that when you take a bite out of that burger, you just know somewhere in the world a vegan is crying."

- I love a good burger, but I've never had the privelege of a deep fried one. I'd love to try one, if only once. I have a deep fryer that was given to me as a gift last year that I still haven't used. Sounds good!

- Hmmm.... the more health conscious we get the more things people find to deep fry! Is it karma or balance? lol This year the new one is deep fried butter, I kid you not.
However last night I was at a very fancy restaurant and ordered callimari . With it were these tempura battered deep fried round things that turned out to be deep fried lemons. I could have died happy the moment I put it in my mouth. WOW!
5 * btw
