It Runs Hot And Cold

An absolutely delectable way to end any meal.

A Treat For All Ages

I have had the utter joy of having eaten this delightful dessert on more than a few occasions. It is actually gaining popularity in more restaurants and the public is getting more awareness of it.

It's just a really different texture and the concept itself is kind of out there. Hot and cold together. It's like a miracle of culinary science. Anyways, I have included a recipe below for those adventurous enough to try making it on their own.

Things You'll Need:

Ice cream
Oil, such as canola, vegetable or peanut
Deep fryer
Breading material, such as cornflakes, cookies or cake
Eggs
Flour
Flavorings, such as sugar and cinnamon
Paper or plastic bag
Cookie sheet
Spoons
Several bowls
Paper plates for breading station
Ice cream scoop

Directions :

Gather ingredients to use for deep frying the ice cream. Ingredients include ice cream (frozen very hard), flour, an egg or two, and a breading mixture. The breading mixture can be made from cornflakes, sponge cake, bread or cookie crumbs.

Roll ice cream into balls using a large ice cream scooper. Place these balls on a cookie sheet or tray and place in the freezer until ready to coat with breading mixture.

Prepare the breading. Crush cornflakes or cookies in wax paper or a plastic bag. Slice sponge cake. If using bread slices, remove the crusts. Allow for two slices of sponge cake or bread for each ice cream ball.

Make the egg mixture in a bowl. Add flavorings, such as cinnamon or vanilla, and a little sugar to the eggs. Beat to combine. Fill a medium-sized bowl with 2 cups of flour.

Remove the ice cream balls from the freezer. One by one, coat with flour, dip in egg mixture and cover thoroughly with the breading. The breading material should completely cover the ball so that the hot oil from the fryer does not come into direct contact with the ice cream. Return the breaded balls onto the cookie sheet.

Return the breaded ice cream balls to the freezer. Allow the balls to become very firm, perhaps as long as overnight. When the balls are frozen hard, they are ready to be deep fried.
