Fried And Soooo Delicious !

One of my all-time favorite snacks / appetizers / toppers.

The Recipe According To The Food Network

Now this is something I can really smack my mouth around. Deep fried pickles can be eaten straight, or with a sauce or dressing, or you can even top a sandwich or burger with it.

I have made these myself and it is ridiculously scrumptious. I could eat these by the tons. It is a vegetable after all. Isn't it ? Riiiigghht ???

I have below given two very similar variations of the same dish. The first one is from the Food Network and the other is from Gourmet Food Land. I love both of them , and the great thing with these recipes is that you can bake these as well to cut down on the fat and cholesterol, not to mention calories as well. I hope you get a chance to try these little gems.

Directions :

Using only very cold dill pickle spears, dip pickle into egg wash and then coat with breading. Repeat until no pickles remain, and arrange dipped pickles on a sheet pan lined with waxed paper. Chill for at least 30 minutes.

In a deep fryer, heat oil to 375 degrees F. Alternatively, heat oil in a large, heavy pot suitable for deep-frying. Carefully add chilled pickle spears, in batches, to the hot oil and fry for about 3 1/2 minutes or until golden. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Serve with Ranch Dressing.

Egg Wash:

2 cups milk

2 eggs

Pinch lemon pepper

Pinch dill weed

Pickle juice

Breading:

2 1/2 cups cornmeal

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup lemon pepper

1/2 cup dill weed

4 teaspoons paprika

2 teaspoons garlic salt

Pinch cayenne pepper, or more to taste

For egg wash: In a baking dish, whisk all ingredients together, except pickle juice. Add pickle juice, to taste, and whisk to combine.

For breading: Combine all ingredients in a baking dish.

Ranch Dressing:

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup sour cream

3 tablespoons minced parsley leaves

2 tablespoons chopped green onion

1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

2 teaspoons freshly ground pepper

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1/2 garlic clove, minced

Mayonnaise

In a large mixing bowl, stir all ingredients together, except mayonnaise. Add mayonnaise, as needed, to thicken. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

A Little Pickle Of Heaven On Earth

The Gourmet Food Land Recipe

Prep: 20 mins. Bake: 20 mins.

1/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup egg substitute
1/2 cup panko (Japaneses bread crumbs)
1/2 cup of plain or seasoned(which ever preferred) bread crumbs
1/4 cup AP flour(Optional)
1/4 grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt or kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon Ms. Dash Original Blend
10 (Or as desired) Vlassic Oval Hamburger Chip pickles

1. Combine buttermilk(you could just use regular egg or milk instead of buttermilk if wanted) and egg substitute in one bowl. Combine panko, plain bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, and all seasonings in a second bowl and AP flour in a third bowl.
2. Dread each pickle chip into the flour first, spank off excess flour (Flour first helps the egg and breadcrumbs to stick but you don't have to use the flour if you don't want to)
3. Dip each floured pickle into the egg mixture followed by the bread mixture.
4. Place on baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake at 400 degrees F. for about 20 minutes or until golden brown, turning once.

For less calories use no dipping sauce. Baking is a healthier verison than using oil and deep frying.
