What a great walking lens! I lived in Florida (Tampa) for 11 years before moving to North Carolina four years ago. Your pictures made me homesick.

I enjoyed your walk and the pics..I'm looking to move back to Florida (lived there my whole life til 5 years ago) when my house sells in Charlotte, NC. Have been looking at the condos in Deer Creek..can't find anything bad about them! Have you had any major assessments or there any coming up that you know of? I'm hoping to move by late spring or summer..hoping maintenance fees, taxes, etc. will not be too bad..heard around 256. month for maintenance? Anyway, loved your pics..hope I can move there soon!

This looks like a nice neighborhood! And congratulations on your purple star, this is an original idea that is very well deserving of your star.
  • BarbRad Jun 12, 2009 @ 11:58 pm | delete
Very well done. I think I'll add this to my lens roll for my local lens on Paso Robles -- also a walk. I like lenses that are original, like this one. I sent the link to my Paso Robles lens to a realtor who specializes in homes in the tract I wrote about. I thought it might prove useful to show people relocating the soul of the neighborhood -- not just the interior and exterior of the homes that she's showing. I can see she has been sending people over to look. This is a neat way to publicize a local lens outside of Squidoo. Now i want to read a lot more of your lenses, but no more time tonight.

Thumbs up!! Looks like a great area to live and walk. Like your music too, the bands of the 70's. I knew a lady that lived in the Forum and she loved it. Cheers. Will follow you on Twitter.

Great lens on Deer Creek, FL. Love your photos and links. It seems you have taken a potentially negative thing (losing a job) and made it positive. You are taking the time to smell the flowers. Congrats on the Top 100 and Purple Star.

Now this is a new "trend" on Squidoo that I really like. Angel Blessings for an excellent lens!
  • aidenw May 28, 2009 @ 9:02 pm | delete
What an awesome lens! I just couldn't get enough of the pictures; and the animals mentioned: ducks, Anhingas (never heard of this one before), jumping fish, iguanas, ohh... what more can you ask for? :) I felt like getting a virtual tour of paradise. Indeed, this is my idea of paradise on earth and I'll certainly add this community to my list of places I'd want to live. Congrats on the purple star. Certainly well deserved!
  • Shelly May 26, 2009 @ 9:26 pm | delete
I keep telling myself I'll start morning walks again...I tell myself every day, perhaps tomorrow! My walk would look much different as I live in the northwoods of Wisconsin and have seen quite the variety of wild life from bear to mosquitos. Very nice work!
  • Spook May 26, 2009 @ 12:13 pm | delete
A lovely walk Tony and congratulations on your new job. Believe it or not I had something similar. All the best.

    Lovely lens.
I added a wiki link - not a patch on your page, but anyone can improve it.

My walks around Porirua usually reveal a blue heron, but most of your birds are not seen in this area 12,000 km away.
    Keep up the walking!

    (Inappropriate security word "birdgag"!!)

It's been lovely here, the winter is the best, but the past week we have had rain, in fact it's raining heavily now! The humidity is kicking in, so for the next 6 months most days will be 95 degrees and sticky.

Wow Poddys, one of your best yet! I live in the woods, so this wide open park area would be a welcome retreat from where I am now (lots of bugs). We also don't have sidewalks or paths, so I'm kind of jealous. Squid Angel blessed!

Tony -- great lens. I could have sworn I left a comment when I visited when it was first published. I must admit that the bird you pictured would have made me think it was a Cormorant although my hubby would probably tell me it was an Anhinga!

    Tony,

Great photos! Reminds me of a couple of the nicer communities in Bradenton/Sarasota area. Seen any Crocs yet? I caught a picture of one at a retention pond off the main road - over 7 feet long. Needless to say - I didn't get a good closeup.

Keep on trekking! and thanks for sharing! :)

    Tony

I enjoyed looking through all of your photos. You are fortunate to get to live year round in such a wonderful place.

We stay just north of you in Jupiter Beach at the Ocean Trails condos every March. Just wish we could be there all year instead of just one month. I too enjoy taking long walks and of course I take lots of photos. It is such a great area! Thanks for sharing

You live in a very beautiful area, I thought the pictures were great. It's still a few too many houses for me, then again I live in the middle of Ocala National Forest...LOL Great job!!

Tony, thanks for taking us along on your beautiful walk. We who live in Florida are so lucky to be able to take these scenic walks everyday of the year. You are inspiring me to do a lens on my walks in Hollywood, Florida. By the way, haven't you moved back to England? I would to see your walks there. 5*
  • JaguarJulie May 15, 2009 @ 6:51 am | delete
Wow! How original of an idea Tony to do a lens on your daily walk -- I was looking for those SIX flights of stairs! Nicely done -- glad you decided to do this lens!!!
  • LindaJM May 15, 2009 @ 4:36 am | delete
It took me almost as long to look at your lens as it took you to take the walk. :) Thanks for reminding me that I need to be out walking every day. I've taken too many days off due to needing to conserve my energy for gardening. I've been thinking of making a lens similar to this with pictures of my walk along the Klamath River Highway. I haven't made any local lenses yet... so, maybe one of these days, I will.
  • mulberry May 15, 2009 @ 3:08 am | delete
Love all of the photos! It does sound like a nice quiet community. I lived in a Condo in Bradenton, Florida for a time many years ago. It looked somewhat similar. It was indeed quiet as the population was also retirees and snowbirds. Of course the average age in that county at the time was 59; I was 27 and thus, it wasn't so great in my eyes. I think I would look at it much differently now!

I have enjoyed looking through all of those photo`s you took Tony, They make me want to go back to Florida so much especially more so as i have not visited this part, Every photo looks beautiful and the area`s so clean and tidy. This place is my dream! x

I actually have a couple of friends not too far from you in Dania Beach and Lauderdale. To be honest I really prefer to spend my Florida time in South Beach, but it has been a few years since I have been out that way. I definitely love the golf courses out that way and my favorite has to be the TPC course at Herron Bay even though they charge you an arm and a leg in green fees. Thanks for sharing your home with us in this way.

Many years ago, a friend and I lived near a golf course and we'd walk every weekday morning around it. This brought back good memories for me.
