Deer tattoos hold a special place in my heart. The deer the symbol of Herne the Hunter a special meaning for all those with Celtic routes or pagan beliefs. Dears make for powerful protectors and can also be animal spirit guides.

When deciding on your tattoo it is a great idea to decide why you have chosen the picture. Is it because your dear tattoos hold special meaning? You just like the image? One of my favorite animals is a deer. There is something majestic about stages standing proud with the wild hilly landscape behind them. There is also something endearing about the small lanky legged Bambi baby deer. Many people think of deer as victims, something to be hunted by either other animals or man. It is true that their lot in life is to be part of the predators food chain, but that does not make them victims. They have an elegance and dignity and beauty about them that makes them special.

Early one morning while out walking alone in the countryside everything was still. The mist was low covering the fields. All was peaceful. Then it happened the mists lifted revealing a stag grazing on the lush long grass in the field only feet away. I froze, standing in silence watching this magnificent animal in almost surreal surroundings. Then I must have moved or it caught my scent and was gone. For all the meanings that animals represent when you capture the image of the deer whether on painting or tattoo, you are capturing something magnificent, ancient and powerful and very very special.
