Did you know that there are about 45 species of deer worldwide?
Ococoileus virginianus (whitetail) or Odocoileus hemionus (blacktail or mule deer)
A tan or reddish-brown in the summer and greyish-brown in the winter, the belly, throat, nose band, eye ring and insides of the ears are white. There are black spots on the sides of the chin. The antlers have individual tines that grow upward from each of the main beams.
There are about 45 species of deer worldwide, divided into two broad groups: the old world group includes the subfamilies Muntiacinae and Cervinae; the new world deer the subfamilies Hydropotinae and Capreolinae.

Fawn Rescue
1960 when we had a gas station out in the country where there was no phone or electricity (we had our own power generator) - and the passing highway was only gravel. One day the man working on the road grader found a little orphaned fawn (he saw the mother had been hit by a car). The grader operator picked up the fawn and brought it to us asking if we would look after it until he could contact a game warden. We agreed to look after it. Next day the game warden came and took it away and later reported that he had successfully found a doe that adopted the little fawn.
