You get eight cameras with this system. You can put them all outside or put some inside and some outside. Your choice. The image quality is excellent during the day and since it has night vision, it's good at night too.
The DVR can hold a month's worth of footage if you want to save it. If you see something questionable in your yard and you want to keep the recording of it, you can.
You can set it up so that you get an email when motion is detected. You can also check your security footage from any remote computer or BlackBerry (or iPhone or other compatible phone).

Excellent system, recommend it
Excellent system. We bought this system and installed 6 of the 8 included cameras in under 4 hours. The hardware included is easy to install and understand. Cameras are plug and play! Installed all the wires to the DVR and plugged it in. Images are perfect during the day and excellent at night. The software includes a remote and mouse for easy, very easy programming of the system. I would recommed this system to anyone looking to save money and DIY. For the money, this system is well worth it compared to 3000.00 for high end equipment I was looking at. So far we're happy, still need to program the system which may take some time.

Works great.
I had been researching surveillance systems for 9 months before purchasing this model. Setup of the system was very easy, obviously where you decide to install the the cameras can make the install more difficult. It took a couple of hours once the system was networked to get it on my PCs and on our iPhones. It's great being able to check on the property from anywhere. The cameras have made it through a couple of severe windstorms and haven't moved at all. I'd recommend installing them under eves when possible. The system has been running for two months with no issues at all. I'd highly recommend upgrading to the 8 camera system, over the 4. It cost a little more money but I'm glad I did.

Great
I should have gotten this sooner. I have two camaras inside and six outside. It covers everything. It saw an intruder in my neighbors yard and I could play it back for the police. Worth every penny.
