Defiant Child Behavior

Defiant children may be angry, can be frustrated and be looking to blame everybody else and feel that they are equal on an authority basis to adults. This behavior can result in their being angry with their interaction with friends as well as anybody that appears to be in a position of authority, yes even you as a parent.

When you result to spanking your child, defiant child behavior children may often be able to manipulate the immediate situation and turn the blame and the focus on the behavior of the parent. A child with defiant child behavior issues may be labeled as "strong willed" or as explosive. Many parents of these children are apprehensive at best or set definitive limits on their child. Therefore, chaos can and generally does result.

There are many underlying influences that may drive this behavior, a feeling of inadequacy possibly due to rejection from friends and peers, issues with parents, body image issues, as well as problems and conflicts with siblings.

Most kids will show defiant behavior on occasion, but it may be possible that your child may have a condition that is commonly referred to as oppositional defiant disorder.

No one is absolutely certain exactly what will cause defiant child behavior. It could be a case of issues with brain chemistry. It could also be how the family reacts or overreacts to a child's behavioral issues. How a child is ultimately disciplined also plays a large role in defiant child behavior.
