All You Need To Know About Dehumidifiers

Take a quick view on how dehumidifiers work.

Dehumidifier - An Overview

There are lots of disadvantages of having a humid air inside your house. It can cause discomfort not only to you but to your pets as well. Humid air condenses everywhere including your skin, upholstery, walls and many more. It can also produce an extensive damage to your house such as your wall paint, furniture wood or wall, wall papers and any other things that can be affected.

Dehumidifiers is a household appliance that reduces the grade of humidity in the air. It reduces and eliminates deterioration of equipments because of rot, mold, rust and mildew. Everyday, 5 up to 15 quarts of water from the air are being removed by a single home dehumidifier.

Almost all dehumidifiers are noisy, caused by the fan and compressor just like a window mounted room air conditioner. It works when the fan draws air from the room, and then moves it through the dehumidifier and then blows it back out to that room. The evaporator coils is where the compressor circulates the refrigerant. The condenser coils makes the air cool. And then it causes all the water to condense to the evaporator coils. A condensation pan is where all the water drips which then redirects to the reservoir bucket.

In most cases, reservoir buckets are bigger than any others that ranges from 10 up to 65 pints in capacity. When the buckets gets full, the machine automatically stops to prevent overflow. There are other alternatives in some models wherein a hose, drain hose or garden hose ca be fitted into it so that water continuously pours out into any drain.

Mini and Portable Dehumidifiers

Choose what's best for you.

There are two basic types of small dehumidifiers, they are the Mini and Portable Dehumidifiers.

These kinds of dehumidifiers are not totally machines that you need a power to switch it on. Most of them don't even need to plug into the wall. Instead, mini dehumidifiers contains a packet of salt or silica gel that absorbs the moistures out of the air. Usually, it can hold up to 16 ounces of moisture. A battery operated light or a color change mechanism will be an indication that the absorbent get is already full. In order to rejuvenate the packet, you should put it out in an area that it will be well-ventilated or you can just plug the unit into an electric outlet to heat it up and dispose off the water. When the silica is dry again, the mini dehumidifier is now ready for action again. Mini dehumidifiers may easily wear out, but at a $20 or less rate, it shouldn't be a problem getting another one.

Portable dehumidifiers are specially designed for a slightly larger and for bigger jobs compare to the mini ones. It has the basic features the same with what the full-size unit. The only difference is that portable dehumidifiers are more tightly packed, has a more lighter components and with a smaller capacities. They can either be between powerful-but-too-big, and convenient-but-too-weak.
