Del The Funky Homosapien

Ranked #25,946 in Music, #883,893 overall

Del released his debut album, "I Wish My Brother George Was Here" back in 1991. It was produced by his famous cousin Ice Cube. The album had a strong G-Funk sound to it (sampling Parliament Funkadelic) and produced two main hits for Del, "Mr. Dobalina" and "Dr. Bombay".

Del's subsequent albums took a different direction in sound, starting with  1993's "No Need For Alarm", which broke away from Ice Cube's influence and went for a jazzier sound. Production on this second album was handled mostly by Del and Hiero crew mates A-Plus (from Souls Of Mischief) and Domino.

Most sites talk about the commerical failure of his second album "No Need For Alarm" apparently causing him to be dropped by his label Elektra. I disagree that it was not a strong album. There are some classic cuts on there such as "Catch A Bad One", "Wack MCs", etc, and it's still one of my favourite albums of all time.
