"Unclaimed property (sometimes referred to as abandoned) refers to accounts in financial institutions and companies that have had no activity generated or contact with the owner for one year or a longer period. Common forms of unclaimed property include savings or checking accounts, stocks, uncashed dividends or payroll checks, refunds, traveler's checks, trust distributions, unredeemed money orders or gift certificates (in some states), insurance payments or refunds and life insurance policies, annuities, certificates of deposit, customer overpayments, utility security deposits, mineral royalty payments, and contents of safe deposit boxes."
The pile of unclaimed property in Delaware is currently at $370 million and since most owners aren't aware they're missing money, that amount is sure to get bigger.
A few unscrupulous state employees knew about the sizable amount of lost money in the Treasury and decided to dip their hands in the citizens' loot.
A state official's son along with 4 others were recently convicted of stealing funds from the Delaware Unclaimed Property Division and diverting the people's money for their own gains.
Residents of Delaware as well as other states should do an unclaimed money search before anymore crooked employees in the government does this.
