HOW and WHY I BECAME A DOVE CHOCOLATIER

In August of 2008 I wanted to host a Dove Chocolate Tasting Party for my friends in Milford DE...but I could not find a Dove Chocolatier to come to my house to do the Party. It was a very frustrating exercise since there were less than 750 Dove Chocolatiers at the time.
I soon came to the conclusion that this had to be a terrific opportunity for me to make some money and build a team of Dove Chocolatiers on the Delmarva Peninsula (Del., Maryland, Virginia) and beyond.
But I still had not found anyone near me. Finally, I found an experienced Chocolatier in Pennsylvania who sponsored me in late August of 2008. To make a long story short...I am now a Dove Chocolatier.
I kicked off my business at my house on September 5th of 2008 in the middle of a hurricane. From that party I got 4 bookings that moved my business forward. Since the kickoff, I have done 10 parties and sold over $4000. worth of Dove Chocolate...everything from chocolate to tempering machines to brownie mixes to 5 minute mousse packets and all the other exclusive products in our catalog.
It has been a lot of fun and rewarding too! If you live in Delaware or nearby Maryland towns....I am your Connection for Dove Chocolate Tasting Parties in Delaware and on the Delmarva Peninsula. You say you don't even know where Delaware is? That's OK, I have personally sponsored new Dove Chocolatiers from Florida, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah, Ohio and Iowa too.

While I find Dove Chocolate Discoveries very easy to do it does take time to manage a business like this. Dove Chocolatiers work hard to earn their commissions. However, I have loved every minute of it! The training and company support is in place to help any Chocolatier create a business.

Short History of Dove's Direct Sales Division...
Dove Chocolate Discoveries
In May 2008 the company went National, before that point we were only open in approximately 15 states, all on the East Coast. Since that time we have grown from the original 70 Launch Day chocolatiers to over 1300 (as of July, 2009)! That being said there is still tons of room for growth, and some states have barely any Chocolatiers still. For instance, in Michigan there are only 30 Chocolatiers in the whole darn state.
Having M&M Mars Inc. as our parent has given us some major advantages in the industry! Who knows chocolate better than the Mars Family?! They have the funds, marketing channels, and knowledge to propel this company into a giant in the Direct Sales industry!
Despite a tough economy the premium chocolate market actually has grown, it is one of the very few to do so in recent months. It feels good to know we are in the right place at the right time.
I have had the benefit of watching the company develop, and from the marketing materials such as the catalogs, to the product line and packaging, I can tell you we have made huge strides in such a short time.
Every direct sales company I know claims to be a ground floor opportunity....but I have never been involved with company that has 1300 distributors, is backed by a multi billion dollar corporation and is so easy to do! The short answer from me is "YES".As of December 1, '08, I have been a Dove Chocolatier for 90 days.
I had 5 parties in September. The proceeds paid for my sales kit and other expenses and I had a profit! Plus I was the Number 1 in sales among the 300 Chocolatiers who are in my line of sponsorship. I took October off for family time and a mini vacation to Shenandoah.
In November I had 5 more parties. In fact, I had some outstanding parties in November and nearly doubled my sales when compared to September's parties.
I have won several sales contests in my line of sponsorship and bonuses of over $200 in free Dove products to restock my supply cupboard. I have also won 2 company sales challenges and received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from my upline leader for being top salesperson in September.
To be honest, I do have previous direct selling experience with "Stampin Up" and "House of Lloyd".
BUT DON'T GET TOO EXCITED!!!
I was a miserable failure with both of those companies. I lost money. I got very few bookings and had very low sales at the few parties that I did. I had absolutely nothing to show for my efforts.
But the biggest problem was that the other companies were not much fun for me or my hostesses. With Dove I am having fun and making money.

Dove Chocolate Discoveries is the perfect business for self-starters and motivated business owners. It's fun, straight forward and easy, easy, easy to do. But it can be real scary to start a business when your sponsor/mentor is long distance.
That was how I felt! When I began my Dove business in September 2008, I was anxious to get started...but could find no one in Delaware to sign me up or "hold my hand" for my first party.
Luckily, I found my sponsor, Amy, through an online woman's forum and after several emails and 2 phone conversations I signed with her... but she lives several hours from me so I knew that I would have to take responsibility for my own success or failure...but I was confident that I could do it myself. After all, it's only chocolate!
Here's how I did it! Are you ready? Are you sitting down? I watched the Tasting Party Video that came with my sales kit!!!
Then I tried demonstrating the products to my family. Finally I watched the Video again and called Amy with questions. The rest is history...
I invited about 35 friends and neighbors to my house on a Saturday for 2 kickoff parties which happened to be during a hurricane. Only 10 people came out in that nasty storm to attend BUT...Six of my friends booked parties that day plus I sold a lot of Dove Products. Amazing! I have never had so much fun or been so successful with a Direct Sales Company before (previous experience was with Stampin' Up and House of Lloyd).
At this point in time, there are not very many Dove Chocolatiers in the United States. The odds are that you will have to be a motivated, self starter to get your business up and running. I admit that I had stage fright for those first parties but since they were in my home it was a lot easier to do. It would have been great if Amy could have been there to help me start my business. But guess what? The confidence I gained from doing it myself is a really good thing.
