Delayed Philippine Airlines flight Schedule Experience

Worst Scenario when flights are delayed
Situation:
At Davao International Airport, Philippines.
Flight Schedules:
- Davao to Manila (10:50)
- Manila to Honolulu (15:20)
Davao to Manila flight (10:50) was changed to (13:30) which will cause a lot of trouble for our international flights to Honolulu. We booked domestic and international flights separately and not a connecting flight.
After arriving at that airport and learned that original flight schedule has changed, we went to the Philippine Airlines office located inside the airport and met PAL supervisor and staff. He explained to us that it would impossible to catch our international flight.
The options:
1. to try and contact Hawaiian Airlines if they are still seats available for 2. This aircraft will flight the same day at around 19:00 hours. But at that time, they confirmed that the aircraft was also overbooked and have no available seats for us.
2. to wait for Tuesday ( we were there Saturday) for Philippine Airlines next flight to Honolulu which means that we will stay in Davao or in Manila for 3 nights.
3. to wait for Hawaiian airlines next flight on Monday which means that we will stay in Davao or in Manila for 2 nights.

What's the progress?
We started waiting at their office around 9:30 in the morning until 13:20 in the afternoon.
The two supervisors made multiple calls, specially to the Hawaiian Airlines in order to see some progress of our status. After 30 minutes of waiting, only 1 seat is available and they booked and confirmed it. We were only waiting for one available seat. When it's almost time to go or for the next aircraft to depart, we were advised to take that flight and stayed in Manila for a better chance of flying Hawaiian Airlines.
He gave us the following documents:
1. paper for our Hawaiian airlines flight in case we will be accommodated
2. paper of Hawaiian Airlines flight on Monday in case we can't make it for that night.
3. paper for Philippine Airlines flight on Tuesday in case we decide to take that flight
4. meal voucher
5. car transfer voucher
And also the assurance that someone from Philippine airlines Manila will take good care of us.

Arrived Safely in Manila
Meet PAL staff and endorsed us to their office in charge
We need to pick up our luggage first before going to the office on the third floor.
At the office around 17:00 hours or 5:00 P.M.
They knew our situation. Then then made some calls of the progress of our Hawaiian Airlines flight. But they can not tell any available seats unless everyone checked in and identify no show. They advised us to go to the terminal (the sooner the better since that aircraft will depart around 19:00 hours). There was no assurance that we will be accommodated. We were advised to:
1. go to Hawaiian Airlines business class check-in counter. They already know our situation see if they can accommodate us but not until the last minute.
2. meet a PAL staff in case will can not take that flight and we will given hotel accommodation, etc.

Then we were given two tickets but one has no neat number yet.
We were told to proceed to the Immigration area and to the boarding area. We informed their staff there and see if they can help us. We assume that in few minutes, they can tell us if we can be accommodated or not...... After at last, we got seats! By mistake as we compare our seat numbers, we have the same number! I went back and they corrected it. We can't sit next to each other. But that's okay.... we were just so happy that we took this flight and no need to undergo the same procedures again.

Inside Hawaiian Aircraft
I was on seat 22E and my husband was on 46A. After boarding, I was told by one of the attendant to sit beside my husband which happened to be a vacant seat. Perfect timing because he was sick and needs my care.
We enjoyed good dinner, snack and rest.

- Sounds like a rough experience. I've had a few bad connections when flying and eventually you forget those and fly again. Wish there was a better way to get there.
