Dell OptiPlex GX270 Will Not Boot Up or Turn On

Defective Motherboards on the Dell OptiPlex GX270

There are two common causes for the OptiPlex GX270 to not boot up. The problems are well documented and may or may not be covered by Dell's warranty program.

The first, and probably the most common reason a OptiPlex GX270 will not start or boot up is a power supply failure. The failure is indicated by a flashing amber light on the on/off button.

Fix: Replace the power supply. The power supply is not covered under warranty beyond the initial warranty or extended warranty. You will need a Dell power supply.

Another common cause of the OptiPlex GX270 not booting is bad capacitors on the motherboard. The capacitors have a manufacturing defect and the problem is easy to detect.

Open the case and inspect the capacitors for leakage and discoloration. This defect is covered by Dell and they will replace the motherboard. Just call Dell's warranty department.

Problem: You are trying to use a USB keyboard and or mouse on your Dell OptiPlex GX270 and the computer will not recognize them.

Great lens with a lot of useful information
I'm a great fan of the Dell OptiPlex series of pcs though I don't have a GX270
There's no wonder these models tend to be in such high demand on eBay. They always seem to sell well, and no wonder.
They are reliable and so long lasting. They seem to go on forever.
Great info. Thank you for sharing it.
