John Z. Delorean, long admired for his great work in the automobile industry and his vision and designs of fabulous cars, excited everyone with his new venture: Delorean Motor Cars. The industry desperately needed his vision, though the Big Three would never admit that and didn't try to make a deal at the right times. We could still have these, and they could, by now, be the real car of the future...
The result was predictably hideous, especially for Mr. Delorean. Like other visionaries, he was unable to see what was coming, and he pushed his dream through. And like other visionaries, he paid a terrible price.

After 2 decades of ugly box shaped cars, John Delorean jazzed up car fans with an incredible new vision. We were with him, so excited and eager, all ready to look and buy, all of us who missed the wonderful cars that had been such an important part of our lives.There were plans to have 100 Deloreans Gold Plated... not something that had ever been done before.
John Delorean touched on what the promise of personal transportation could and should be, the promise we have all waited for, but after the treatment he received, despaired of ever happening in the future.

Today when all the internet and social networking is about self-promotion and getting yourself known, it may seem strange that there were days when that same self-promoting was viciously HATED by others.John Delorean was famous, and so hated, for his self- promotion. He was punished for it at the first signs of weakness, and that punishment continued until the end of his life.
His designs were beloved among the greasers and muscle-car fans, his GTO was, and still is, one of the most beloved cars, and he virtually saved Pontiac from itself and its boring product lines.
He moved in on the ponycar market with the Camaro and Firebird and, along with the LeMans, sealed his place in the history of great car men.
He made GM THE favored corporation...

Like all of us, John Delorean had his character flaws and weaknesses, and these are magnified the more demanding our visions are, the greater the demands on us, the more visible we are to our enemies.He wanted to go it alone with Delorean Motors, and he had a great thing going. Financial pressures made him weakened, however, and his flamboyance made him a target. He ended up fighting 40 lawsuits, with all the expenses that go along with it, and consequently even the acquittals provided no peace. A tragic tale for a man so well admired by so many, and who did so much for the rest of us 'dreamers'.

John Zachary DeLorean (January 6, 1925 - March 19, 2005) was an American engineer and executive in the U.S. automobile industry, and founder of the DeLorean Motor Company.
He was most well known for developing the Pontiac GTO muscle car, the Pontiac Firebird & the DeLorean DMC-12 sports car, which was later featured in the movie Back to the Future, and for his high profile 1982 arrest on charges of drug trafficking in an apparent attempt to raise funds for his struggling company, which declared bankruptcy that same year. He successfully defended himself against these charges, showing that his alleged involvement was a result of entrapment by federal agents.
