Once upon a time, Barack Obama opposed offshore oil drilling, which he characterized as an environmental threat that would be ineffective in bringing relief from high gasoline prices.On June 20, Obama declared, "Offshore drilling would not lower gas prices today. It would not lower gas prices tomorrow. It would not lower gas prices this year. It would not lower gas prices five years from now."
On August 1st, Barack Obama said that he would support oil drilling anyway - as a "compromise". Sadly, when it comes to oil drilling, the only compromise that's taken place is Obama's compromise of his own principles.
