Demon Dictionary

They are supernatural creatures. Nonhuman, evil beings that exist on this planet to do wrong. Evil by nature, the purpose of their existence is to spread evil in this world.

Demons are basically the opposite of angels. Angels help you, Demons hurt you.

The word 'demon' comes from the Greek word 'daimon' which means intelligent. So, Demons are intelligent beings. They have the ability to communicate by speech, to reason, to be able to follow orders or ignore them...

There is a universal appearance of demons in religions and cultures from all over the world. And because Demons have supernatural powers, many cultures have superstitious traditions which are supposed to repel demons.

There is only one Devil, but there are many demons. In the Christian theology, Demons are fallen angels that serve Satan. The demons were cast out of heaven along with Satan to await final judgment.

They have power, but it is limited, they are not omnipotent. But since Demons have both knowledge and strength, they can inflict physical and mental sickness. Many believe a battle of good and evil is happening all around us where demons play their part.

The Greeks suggest that Demons are the souls of departed evil people. While some Christian writers have proposed that demons are the disembodied spirits of a pre-Adamic race.

Demons are attracted to humans, and a very few humans are attracted to Demons. Demon's are not overly affected by our physical laws, or rules as they are very different from humans. And it maybe this supernatural difference, that in the end, allows the Demon to so often come out on top of any arrangements.

There are many demons in literature. There is DC comic's demon Etrigan. Etrigan is demon from Hell who, despite his violent tendencies and desire to do evil, usually finds himself allied to the forces of good, because he is bound to Jason Blood, a human and a hero.

There are all sorts of demons in Japanese anime, not to mention Kabuki and other Japanese arts.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer faced all kinds of Demons.

A rakshasa is a demon or unrighteous spirit in Hindu and Buddhist mythology.

A Haakai is a fictional type of demon found in some video games.

And, of course, there are human demons such as the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
