Demons Are Dark

Drawing demons is a creative process and one that I am happy to share with you all, I love to design dark, demonic designs, and draw horror related fantasy art stuff, and with links to how to draw a demon and other demon products that inspire you or help me and you build what I am trying to create here online, I am sharing with you all.

As for Demons

Demons by their very nature are evil creatures from the bowels of hell, a dimension that only exists to oppose heaven, these evil creatures can take on many forms, some of them rarely human, unless demonic possession is at work, through the ages, these demons have been depicted as fallen angels or something summoned by the supposed witches of the time.

The demonic art is a very popular art form in the fantasy art circles and me showing you how to draw this type of stuff the way I do really is fun.

How To Draw A Demon

Drawing demon art: A Step by step guide how to draw a demon head.

Demonic666 a demon

Drawing A Demons head

To draw the head of a demon you need to think about what your demons head will look like(obviously!).
The picture to the right is just an example of a demon, I want you to think of something really nasty, an evil smiling demon is quite common, and horns and other features such as raised cheek bones, in the beginning sketch below see how I have defined the starting shape of the face and angle of the head.

1. Rough Sketch Believe it or not the above sketch started out as an oval shape much like any head sketch drafted out on paper, so starting out this way you can determine what is best for your drawings and they will be constructed.

2. Rough Sketch Development

After you have worked out what you will do with your idea you can work on it further by laying in some darker lines that define the structure more to bring your demon to life.

3. Adding Depth And Detail To Your Art

Detail should be added as a point of bringing more character to your demonic creature, horns, spiky teeth and evil and defined eye sockets, the lot, you want to bring everything you have created to a conclusion.

4. Last Of All, Pen And Ink To Make It Stand Out

Usually there is the method of inking a pencil drawing in black ink (Indian Ink Commonly) so that it gets rid of the graphite markings of the pencil, so that it appears a crisper and cleaner drawing and you then erase the pencil lines with a clean rubber, often this method is used in comic books as standard.

A tippex like substance called process white is commonly used by professional comic book artists to eliminate smudges and other imperfections on the finished piece of inked artwork, usually the panelled story pages.

Get inspired by these rough sketches saved for a rainy day....

Creating Demons from your imagination

Drawing a full demon, how to add atmosphere to your drawings!

The Winged Demon in His Icy Lair

Buy at AllPosters.com

The above poster image creates atmosphere for the demon creature in his icy lair, the way it is drawn from start to finish and the composition help the picture along.

The best drawings of demons create that sense of atmosphere and evil within the pencil sketch you first draw, here I shall offer some advice on laying out your art to depict a story and a sense of something of a story is going on (See also how to draw a demon with creativity).

I often work with sketches and notes together so that I can refer to my notes at a later stage with my drawings both at the same time, this makes it far easier to see what you intended and what other ideas you can push to achieve.

Out of everything I create, a creature, a monster, a character etc. I do what is called a profile page sketch, this is a full A4 size piece of paper with a full actual drawing of my design and then in the right hand corner I draw the characters head, in between I do notes on what the colours should be, maybe slight adjustments that need dealing with, sometimes If I feel particularly in a creative mood I will draw my character design in various different settings, dungeons, castles, forests etc.

I would do this in small thumbnails and I'd do these in quick sketches, not really taking too much time on them, so I get an idea of the atmosphere of the design and where it would be better suited, this way I can create allsorts of background history in my own mind, regardless whether it would actually be put into a story or not.

Demon films at Amazon

Watching horror films, help you relax as well as be drawn in by the stories and inspirational creatures and concepts

Some of my personal favourites here, that made me at one time want to work in films, but then other ideas and obstacles got in the way, but I would if the opportunity arose.

Demons being one of my favourites as it had that 80's vibe about it and truly one of the horror greats right up there with Romero films and other classics of the time.

Drawing Dark Demonic Art

Why Just Demons?

Although I do draw other things, I often have many a sketchbook filled with demon tattoo designs and just literally stacked into cardboard box files, I seem to draw them endlessly in many different ways.

Often times I just start to doodle and then demons appear, much like they want to exist on paper, I could start out drawing something completely innocent like a tree and end up drawing a demonic tree with huge tentacles that would suck the life out of anyone that passed by.

Here are some more of my shaded demonic sketches and varied pencil drawings, usually featuring Skulls, demons or zombies to name a few.

Demonic Monster Art

New demon drawing, except that it isn't!

I drew this demon a good few years ago and then just shaded it a few months ago.
Drawing demons has never been so much fun.

Drawing a demon skull takes place in the following video, it's just a quick demonic skull concept really that I drew with a HB pencil and shaded it slightly. The Demon head was used as an inspirational drawing of a demonic tattoo.

How To Draw A Hell Demon Part One

Drawing a hell demon with wings

Draw a hell demon quite quickly with this quick drawing run through of the creative sketching process of demon drawings from hell. This is one of them rare drawings that just seemed to unfold just right on the page, without too much work trying to erase the pencil lines. Watch part two below to see the Hell Demon get inked!

How To Draw A Hell Demon Part Two

Adding ink to the demon really brings a nice contrast to the quick hell demon sketch.

Drawing a hell demon on the next step is to really cement the drawing by inking it, I did this quite quickly with a super cheap black gel ink pen that is ideal for this purpose. As you can see there is no talking from me like in some of my other drawing videos, I just get on with the process of sketching, as sometimes actions are much better than words!
