Denied! - An Immigration Story of Faith and Hope - by Keith Edward Campbell
This is a true story! I know, because this book was written by my cousin, Keith Campbell. When they married, Keith and his wife, Akiko, never dreamed of the problems that would arise with her immigration from Japan to the United States. After many years of trying to successfully obtain legal status, Akiko (along with two young sons) traveled back to Japan with the promise that this was the answer. Wrong! But, this family did not give up! This is the story of the 10 years of obstacles that were overcome, the heartache from seperation, the faith and belief, and finally the happy reunion. Denied! was written to help others prevent the same mistakes and give hope to those in simular situations.
I'm very proud of Keith for writing this book and for sharing his and Akiko's legal immigration horror story with us.
I recommend Denied! to everyone...it is a good read.
Denied!
by Keith E. Campbell
Amazon Description: "This is the story of a 10-year, bitter fight of a legitimate intercultural couple to be together. Despite their best efforts to follow proper procedure, the United States government failed them at three critical junctures. The first failure occurred with a faulty timeline, the second failure with faulty advice and years later the third failure occurred with the implementation of a premeditated plan to trick them into leaving the country under the false pretense they would be permitted to seamlessly re-enter with proper authorization. This is the story of the loss of basic human rights, the loss of family cohesiveness, home and security, and the loss of trust in a government and its ability to deal fairly with, defend and protect its people. Through faith, public opinion, the power of belief and a strong sense of community and its involvement, this family persevered and was able to overcome all the obstacles that were thrown in their path and to finally re-unite and return home despite all the barriers and the very great price that was paid. This is a true story."

Happy Family Together

and denied...again!
- Family Separated by Immigration Policies - washingtonpost.com
- BRADENTON, Fla. -- Keith Campbell and his Japanese-born wife spent his 47th birthday half a world apart because of an immigration dispute. Critics say the case illustrates how making mistakes in getting visas and permanent U.S. residency can lead to life-changing consequences for families.

My Review of Denied...
5 stars!
This book tells a very compelling and emotional true story. Keith and Akiko never give up, even when things look impossible to overcome. (If you don't shed some tears reading this, you are a hard person indeed.) They should be on a poster that says: NEVER GIVE UP!! Or, ALWAYS HAVE FAITH! I recommend this book, even if you have not had or expect to have immigration problems. It is about a family, fighting to be together.

- I am looking forward to reading this book. My husband and I have been going through the USA immigration process since 2005. We have spent our entire life savings on trying to remain in the USA. We were very niave on how the whole system worked and wished we were informed about the J1 restrictions stats. We were convinced by our lawyer that we should be able to overturn the restriction. My British husband was offered a job in Ireland and I went with him not expecting to have any difficulty in residing there. Well, I ended up being a 'pregnant' sitting duck waiting for an outcome of the Metock Immigration case (non-eu's married to Eu's must reside in their spouses Eu umember state before coming to the country). My husband eventually became unemployed in Ireland which was a big concern because I could be denied staying when my visa came up. Now, we finally made our way to the UK. I am starting the whole immigration process all over again. When will it ever end? During this process my only living parent died in the USA. We both feel we have lost all financial hope of ever having a home and still worry constantly about our future to remain together as a family. - I have also given up all hope that we will ever be able to live in the USA. I cannot imagine ever coming up with enough money to meet the Affidavit of Support. The process has completely failed us.

- The immigration system is a farce in so many ways. It's designed to keep the baddies out, but it ends up keeping genuine loving couples apart too. While I was living in Florida I met my soulmate, but she was living in the UK. We applied for her to get a visa so she could spend a year in the USA with me. Despite proof that she was going to return to the UK after, her visa was denied, and since nobody told her she could not enter the USA, she was detained in Miami on entry and the immigration officials fortunately sympathized, and after 24 hours in the airport she was officially denied entry, but paroled in. It's a long story, but eventually I ended up moving back to the UK so we could be together. I did get my citizenship first though, and now we are free to go back at any time fortunately.

- My Irish husband and I were denied a visa & our waiver was denied. He was charged with misrepresentation because he ticked the wrong box on the landing card. The result? A lifetime ban. I am expected to leave my 72 yr. old mother who relies on me, and if I wish to live with my husband to whom I have been married almost two years, I must ignore my own physical and mental health problems, give up financial security, my home, etc. and get out. All because he ticked the wrong box. I am an aspiring writer as well, and one day, I hope to tell our own story. Thank you for writing yours. People need to know.

- To be separated from your husband and your kids is something I can't image going through. So glad it has a happy ending.
