Adam Sandler's Just Go With It & now George Clooney's The Descendants are just two of this year's movies set in Hawaii with the latest from Sideways director Alexander Payne and The Descendants Soundtrack List features the "slack key" music of Gabby Pahinui, Ray Kane, Keola Beamer, Lena Machado, Sonny Chillingworth, Jeff Peterson and Reverend Dennis Kamakahi.

Most movies have a music supervisor, music editor and composer. In the cast of The Descendants Alexander Payne chose to use Hawaiian music and forego having a score composer. So his previous Sideways & About Schmidt music editor, Richard Ford was also credited as executive music producer.
Ford explains in this video how he selected bits and pieces from some of the most beloved Hawaiian classics as well as augmented the score with transitional music expositions. On this one example, he shows how he cleverly pulled out a ukelele to add a tiny musical transition to smooth over the movie's score.
The movie's official credits also list Eugene Kulikov as contributing additional music to the Descendants soundtrack and the composer's website lists his track "Wonderland" being used for the movie.
