Desert Lake

Hiking to a Very awesome scenic on a perfect day.

Arizona is one of my favorite places to work with. Colorful Sun sets, beautiful landscape and you have to love the Saguaro Cactus. The Sonoran desert is the only place in the world where the famous Saguaro Cactus grows in the wild. Saguaros have a relatively long life span and are simply beautiful! They take up to 75 years to develop a side arm, and they can live over 150 years, simply amazing. About 2 months ago I planted a few mix cactus seeds and succeeded with one thus far. I'm not sure what it is yet, only time will tell. Interesting to say the least, after all this time it's still only about 1 centimeter tall!

Question

Lets see who can guess

Do You Know what Lake is this one above?

Arizona Cactus Garden

You can have cactus on a picture or you can enjoy watching it grow.

Cactus, the common name for a family of desert plants. The plural is cacti or cactuses. Most species bear sharp, needlelike spines, which protect the plants from foraging desert animals. Cacti are famed for their ability to resist drought, which they owe to the fact that moisture from inside the plant evaporates very slowly through the plant's skin.

Cacti grow in hundreds of different shapes. The fibrous, juicy stems may be globular, cylindrical, branched, trailing and vine like, ribbed, grooved, or knob-bearing. Only two species have true leaves. The rest of the 2,000 species are leafless.

Cacti are easy to grow. Provide a sunny location and water when dry.

The color of the glazed ceramic dish may vary. The varieties of cacti received depend on the season.

Beautiful sky

A perfect full-color fall and an amazing photo!

A fiery sunset from the Arizona desert.

Sunsets come and go, one minute the sky is on fire, the next minute the color starts to fade away and darkness comes quickly. The night brings a new song. In this picture, I remember hearing Wild Donkeys talking to each other in the distance.

VIDEO - Donkeys

It sounded like this one!

The wild burros, can be seen in many parts of Arizona, specially Oatman, AZ . How cute!!
Burros first came to Oatman with early day prospectors. The animals were also used inside the mines for hauling rock and ore. Outside the mines, burros were used for hauling water and supplies. As the mines were closed and people moved away, the burros were released into the surrounding hills.

The burros today in Oatman, while descendants of domestic work animals, are themselves wild - Wild burros are protected by federal law from capture, injury, or harassment. Help protect these living symbols of the old west.

Golden Barrel Cactus

Excellent house plant!

CACTUS: Cactus, the common name for a family of desert plants.

The fibrous, juicy stems may be globular, cylindrical, branched, trailing and vinelike, ribbed, grooved, or knob-bearing. Only two species have true leaves. The rest of the 2,000 species are leafless.

Country of Origin: Central Mexico. Description: Originating in Mexico, this popular cactus reaches up to 6 ft (1.8 m) in height and spread. It has a single, globe-shaped, pale green body that stretches upwards in maturity, becoming barrel-shaped. This stem is heavily ribbed with numerous areoles sprouting radial, yellow spines. In summer, larger cacti produce a circle of vivid, yellow flowers from a crown at the top of the plant. Culture: Frost tender but resistant to very dry conditions, they grow best in well-drained soil and a position in full sun, which will help to maintain the lustre of the spines and longevity of the flowers. Propagate from cuttings or seed. USDA Zone: 9-12. Excellent house plant! The plant you will receive is in a 2.5" pot, well rooted, and about 2" tall! Similar to the one pictured above.
