High Heel History

High-heels are typically worn by women, with heights varying from a Cuban heel of 1½" height to a stiletto heel (or spike heel) of 4" or more. Extremely high-heeled shoes, such as those higher than 5", are normally worn only for aesthetic reasons and are not considered practical. Court shoes are conservative styles and often used for work and formal occasions, while more adventurous styles are common for evening wear and dancing. High-heels have seen significant controversy in the medical field lately, with many podiatrists seeing patients whose severe foot problems have been caused almost exclusively by high-heel wear. I think a 1"-3" high heel shoe is perfect, its a lot less risk of ending up in a crumple piled with sore ankles, and less stress on the foot. If you want a pair of designer high heels to have that celebrity look or you just want to turn heads then I would go with a 4" or higher high heel shoe. Some women just like taller high heels, maybe for extra height or maybe for extra sexiness. Just remember the taller the high heel shoe the more stress you are putting your foot under. Make sure you give your feet a break through out the day and a massage them if you have time. If you are walking long distance be sure to have a second pair of more comfortable shoes to walk in.

I prefer flats but Annie in my Novel, My Mother's Shoes, wore HIGH heels. She didn't feel dressed without them.

I'm a Diva nothing less than a 4in High Heel for me
cjsysreform says:
I wouldn't go higher than 4 inches but 3-4 is my usual choice. I'm only 5 ft 3 inches tall so I definitely like the extra height. and also I've got a very small frame (narrow shoulders, flat chest) and I think I look sort of mousy when I wear less dramatic shoes. But it's not like I regularly wear 4-inch heels to work or anything... just when I go out at night, mostly.

Do you have a pair of designer high heel shoes that you have been dying to wear, but you haven't worn high heels or pumps before. Well, don't be scared because I have you covered. I have a few tips and a video that will give you the courage and advice you need so you can strut your stuff in those new designer high heel shoes like you are a professional runway model. Even if you are experienced at wearing high heel shoes you may find a few things you did not know or a couple of things you want to touch up on.1. You should first start trying to walk in a lower high heel shoe, a 2-3 inch heel is a good start. After walking around the house for a while getting some practice you can move up to a 4-5 inch heel if you feel comfortable. You will notice that by adding just one inch to your heel, the difficulty level becomes very noticeable. High heel shoes with a 5 inch heel are not meant to be worn for long periods of time. You will more than likely be able to wear a taller heel if your feet are larger.
2. High heel shoes that have a wider heel are easier to walk in. Wedge designer shoes have a wider base are less likely to get caught in a crack or other objects so they are easier to walk in also. I know those shoes with the super tall spike high heel(stiletos) are very tempting but just remember those are the hardest to walk in so get plenty of experience before attempting, I don't want you to twist an ankle or hurt yourself. Pointy toe high heel shoes are not as comfortable as rounded toe or open toe designer high heel shoes.
3. Designer high heel shoes with ankle straps, t-straps, or other types of straps are the easiest to walk in because they help keep the high heel shoe from falling off. You don't want to lose that new designer shoe. If you are new to wearing high heels shoes remember high heeled mules are a lot more difficult to keep on your feet.
4. Make sure you buy a pair of high heel shoes that fit well. You don't want them to loose or to tight. If they are too loose you will have a problem keep them on your feet. If they are too tight you will begging for a couple of foot massages throughout the day. It is probably best to have them just a little loose and if you need to you can visit your local Wal-Mart, CVS or somewhere like that and pick up some foot cushions.
5. If it is hard for you to stand up straight while wearing your high heel shoes without bending your knees, it's probably a good idea to go down at least a half an inch in heel height. You will find this makes a world of difference.

More About High Heels

High-heeled shoes are shoes which raise the heel of the wearer's foot significantly higher than the toes. When both the heel and the toes are raised equal amounts, as in a platform shoe, it is generally not considered to be a "high-heel". This tends to give the illusion of longer and more slender legs. High-heels come in a wide variety of styles, and the heels are found in many different shapes, including stiletto, pump, block, tapered, blade, and wedge. Designer Shoe and High Heel Blogs
