Tattoo Creation

Please permit me to advise that if you are suffering from diabetes, heart trouble, aids, cancer, any communicable disease, allergy especially skin related allergy you must consult your doctor before going to a tattooist. Drinking alcohol can also be injurious.

Once you have decided what/where you want your tattoo to be inked into your skin, your tattooist start the preparation for creating a tattoo. This procedure involves getting the customer into the required posture and getting the area to be tattooed marked and is ready to receive the ink. This involves the cleansing of the area and the removal of any hair or unwanted particles. Then the artist will apply/draw the picture on the area to be tattooed by putting an image transference paper known as flash with the outline of the image to be tattooed onto the skin.

Then the tattoo artist prepares the colors of inks he or she desires to use and the caps to hold the ink. Here you shold intervene/take care that the needle tips needed for the creation of the tattoo are chosen from a hygenic/sterilised lot and make sure that your tattooist adheres to the health code and keeps all the area clean. Most of the items, like needles and ink caps, must be fresh and for one time-use-only and sterile wrapped to help reduce the chances of infections and diseases spreading.

Taking a machine that uses a needle to lay the ink deep into the skin makes a tattoo, so this means a lot of tiny puncture wounds are being made. There will be some bleeding. Under normal circumstances this will not be great and is/may be manageable. It is advised to avoid drinking alcohol.

The period required for getting your tattoo finished depends upon the size of your design/tattoo and the time your tattooist is ready to devote. A small/less-complicated tattoo/design can be finished in one sitting of about 30-60 minutes. Medium to large sized tattoos can be finished/done in one session or over a period of time consisting of multiple sessions. Large/complex tattoos may require several sessions spread over a number of days.

Tattoo Removal

There may be many elements/reasons/possiblities, both positive and negative, which may require a tattoo removed. These may differ from man to man. Whether you want to remove it partially or completely you shall have to first consider all the available options and decide which method might be suitable for you.

Laser Removal

One of the most common methods of tattoo removal is Laser Removal. The tattoo-ink is broken in tiny fragments when laser beams/rays/pulses of highly concentrated light are focused on it. These fragements are, later, cleared away by immune system of the body. Complete treatment may require multiple/several sessions. With every treatment more and more laser penetrate to destroy the ink.

In addition to being physically painful this treatment may damage your skin, causing painful blisters and scabs that can eventually lead to scarring. Though with advanced technology it may be minimised and sometimes non-existant, but it all depends upon the situation/type and size of tattoo. Laser removal can be expensive and may need anywhere from 1-10 sessions, each costing nearly $200-$1000 per session. A large-tattoo/tattoo in color may cost thousands of dollars to remove and above all success/effectiveness of the removal still isn't guaranteed.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

In Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) a gel is applied to the skin, requiring treatment, and beams/rays/pulses of light are emitted on it.

It is more effective and less painful than laser therapy. It requires lesser treatment sessions. But it is far more costlier than laser therapy.

Other Medical Methods

Other methods of tattoo removal include abrasive friction of skin, cut away the skin and sewn it back. But they are rarely used because most of them are ineffective, much more painful, cause much damage to the skin, leaves scars on skin. These methods have their own problems/side effects and complications also.

Cream/Other Removals

Every one of us have seen tall claims of tattoo removal through various other methods including creams, lotions, oils and so on. Results/Success/effectiveness of such claims is yet to be proved.

Fading with Saline - Some difficult to find tattooist claims to remove/fading tattoos by applying some saline solution. It seems harmless/painless and least expensive so is worth a try.

Cover-up : An Alternative to Removal - As the name depicts if done by an experienced tattooist it may successfully cover your old tattoo with a new one reducing the previous one to be invisible.
