Jeans History

The word, 'Jeans' from the port of Genoa, Italy, and the people there were also known as Genes. The first jeans were made for the Genoese Navy because they required such trousers for their sailors that could be worn dry or wet, and whose legs would rolled up to wear while they swab the deck. The majority of source books suggest that word "Jeans" derives from the English translation of a French phrase 'serge de Nîmes'. Some people also quote that jeans was used as thick cotton cloth in the 16th century and were known as dungaree colored in indigo and was sold at the Mumbai (Bombay) port where sailors use to cut them to sizes and likes.

Jeans or Denim Jeans is basically trousers made from denim fabric which was considered a hard sturdy wearing fabric mainly wore by peoples who were engaged in heavy laboring jobs. The denim fabric is made from rugged cotton twill textile that is colored blue with indigo dye; jeans may also vary in a variety of fabrics these days like corduroy and others.
