Beading at Designer Dichroic

Beaders Unite!
Helen started with beads at an early age.
She tells me that it was her mother's button box and things such as beaded purses that first gave her the "bug"!
Many of her mothers beaded items were soon reduced to their component states, I wonder how her mother felt about that?
However, Helen has moved on since then and now has the decency to purchase her own beads and materials. She can also often be found in charity shops and jumble sales searching for that elusive, "just perfect" item.

Helen and her beading.

It seems to me that Helen has been beading for an eternity.

Obviously not so but everywhere I look there is evidence of her dedication to the craft. we have separate work areas at home, me being ex-army has to have everything neat and tidy and in its place, Helen...........

Looking at her desk is like looking through a kaleidoscope, so many different colours, shapes and bits of wire that I could never fathom out what is for what but she knows every bead, cabochon and crystal!

Helen of course comes from an "arty" family, her mother is an artist in oil and water colours [you should see HER house!], her sister Linda [Peet] is an artist that you may of heard of, lives in a 2 up 2 down cottage in deepest Cornwall, there is a very narrow access between the front door, her armchair, the kitchen and the stairs to the bedroom! All the rest is taken up with paintings, sculptures and whatever else that you could imagine.

Her other sister Julia also produces things in glass, but not the smaller things that Helen makes, oh no! Julia produces ruddy great panels for instance, [think of office dividers]. These are used for instance in yachts, in the bathroom! Julia also produces smaller items, like windows and coffee tables. To see examples of her work go here. [well worth a visit for inspiration]

Helen's father was an engineer which requires a certain amount of artistic creativity, I know because I also was an engineer. He was also however a "doer", if he wanted something he would build it, from scratch. two examples are the telescope [he was an avid stargazer] and, wait for it, a television! some of the components for this he built into tobacco tins. He apparently was really excited when ITV appeared as he could build a new tuner for it!

It seems to me then that artists are generally untidy people.
This I put down to temperament, I also think that they are loathe to part with anything that they have produced. I know Helen is, she sees everything that she produces as her "little babies".

All this is probably leading to the fact that Helen is an artist from a family of artists. If she can help you in your hobby then she will gladly do so, all you need to do is ask.
