The Desktop Pictures, and the Call for Help
My name is Chris Robock.
I was going to write a big introduction, and write like I normally do when I want to impress. I realized that I need to be straight-up, and say that this is a call for help.
I work on an oilsands site in Alberta, Canada. I'm an office administrator, which means I'm pretty much the lowest paid person on site. That's not to say that the money is bad, but it's not insane like the tradesmen on site get paid. I was being paid enough to make sure my bills got paid every month, and just a little extra to cover a few entertainment expenses for myself and my family.
This month though, disaster struck. On May 13th, a forest fire started close to the site I was working on. It grew, and threatened our worksite. All workers on site were evacuated, and we have not yet been allowed to go back to work. We have no idea when that will change. It could be tomorrow, it could be next week.
In the meantime, bills are coming due, and I don't have the money to pay for them. I have a rent payment, a car payment, a cell phone bill, and my utilities. My van died on the side of the road the other day, and required a new alternator. Those things are a lot more expensive to repair than I thought.
I'm down to my last $100, and I don't know when my next paycheck is coming.
I'm not asking for charity. I don't want something for nothing. Instead, I want to provide something of value that people are willing to pay for.
I don't have artistic talent, I can't sing, and I'm not willing to do anything illegal. I am able to take pictures though, and over the years, I've taken some pictures that I'm incredibly proud of. So what I'd like to do is offer those pictures as desktop pictures, for you to download and install.
I'm offering these computer backgrounds for free. However, I'm also asking that you click the donate button provided for them, and donate what you think your download is worth. If you think it's worth a penny, or a dollar, or 10 dollars, please donate.
All of these pictures were taken personally by myself in my various travels. I hope you like them as much as I do.

An Update
The fire is finally being held, and isn't growing anymore. They allowed us back to work, and we are all finally earning a paycheck.
The struggle isn't over. I make enough to pay my bills and keep my family fed. However, I'm now a month behind on all of my bills, and struggling to get caught up. To get one bill caught up, I'd have to ignore something else.
Thankfully, I have very understanding landlords, and the food bank in town has been a great help.
I'm hoping that you, my reader, can help out too, and buy one of my desktops below for whatever donation you think they're worth. With some support, I can get caught up and out of this hole.

Flowers and Plants
I like flowers. In the right light, it's almost impossible to take a bad picture of a flower.
Take a look below at the flowers and plants that I've created desktop pictures of. All my desktop pictures come in both widescreen and non-widescreen formats, so take your pick.

Waterfalls and Rivers
Within hours of where I live, there are many places with absolutely incredible scenery. Here are some waterfalls and lakes that I thought made incredible desktop pictures.
And yes, the water colour in those pictures is real. The minerals and silt disolved in the rivers gives the water that gorgeous green colour.
Athabasca Falls
Athabasca Falls is located in Jasper National Park, in Alberta, Canada. I try to get to Jasper a few times a year, since it's only a few hours away from where I live. The falls are even more beautiful in person.

Maligne Canyon
Maligne Canyon is also located in Jasper National Park, in Alberta, Canada. With several waterfalls, and dizzying depths, Maligne Canyon is a wonder to behold. You have the chance to do a 6km hike through the canyon, and during the winter, you can do the canyon crawl, complete with ice climbing.

Athabasca River Cliffs
Close to the Athabasca Falls, the Athabasca River has a gorgeous teal tint, thanks to all the dissolved minerals in the water from the glacier. These cliffs were carved over tens of thousands of years by the turbulent waters.

Hidden in the hills south of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I found this breathtaking view after an hour long horseback ride up from the beach.

I found this waterfall at the side of the highway driving through the mountains in BC, Canada.

Scenic Views
I've been to a lot of places in the past that took my breath away. I take pictures in the hope that they do those places justice. See if you can find anything here that you'd like to have as a desktop picture.
Mexican Coastline
This was a view from a boat in the bay south of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I'd love to own a house in this paradise.

Size: 1600x1200

Size: 1920x1080
Columbia Icefields
On the other end of the spectrum, we have the Columbia Icefields, in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. This place is starkly beautiful. There are very few plants, with mostly just grasses, but the sheer beauty of the place is mind-blowing.

Size: 1600x1200

Size: 1920x1080
Mirrored Lake Louise at Dusk
Lake Louise is in Banff National Park, in Alberta, Canada. The Chateau Lake Louise is built right on the shore of the lake, and overlooks this view.

Size: 1600x1200

Size: 1920x1080
Winery Bell Tower
I found this view at a winery in Kelowna, BC, in Canada. Throughout the city, and throughout the valley surrounding the city, you'll find fields upon fields of grapes for the amazing wines they produce there.

Birds and Animals
Occasionally, I get lucky enough to get a great wildlife photo. I've caught those photos in Mexico, in the US, and in Canada. Here are the ones I'd like to share with you. If you'd like one of these as a desktop picture, don't hesitate to take your pick.
Tropical Bird
I have no idea what kind of bird this is, but I thought it was very pretty, so I snapped a picture of it while I was in Mexico. The picture turned out better than I expected.

Size: 1600x1200

Size: 1920x1080
Canadian Elk
When in Jasper, you'll see wildlife all over the place. Since there is no hunting in the park, the animals have no fear of humans, and you can get relatively close to them for pictures. I was about 20 feet away from this elk as he was eating.

Size: 1600x1200

Size: 1920x1080
Marmot
In Jasper National Park, you can take the Jasper Tramway to the top of Whistler's Mountain. At the top, we found this guy posing for pictures while sunning himself on a rock.

Size: 1600x1200

Size: 1920x1080
Sleeping Otter

Size: 1600x1200

Size: 1920x1080
Peacock
On the resorts in Mexico, you can often find peacocks wandering around the grounds. This guy was preening and showing off for everybody that even looked at him.
