Fight And Win The Paper War
One of the hardest things to deal with when you are desperate to declutter, is paper. By paper, I mean notes, pages torn from magazines, magazines themselves, important papers, bills, receipts, childrens school report cards, newspapers, junk mail, etc. Computers are supposed to lessen the need for paper, but they don't. Fortunately there are things you can do to finally win the war against paper.
War Against Paper: How do I win?
Declutter and organize important papers
The problem with trying to declutter paper items is the fear of throwing out something important. To avoid doing that very thing, there needs to be a system put in place to ensure that you will not only get rid of unnecessary paper, but keep important papers where they need to be.One of the best ways to keep papers organised and safe is to have a filing cabinet, or similar such filing system. For smaller requirements perhaps a concertina file folder will suffice, but if you NEED to keep larger amounts of paper, a filing cabinet is definitely in order.
When trying to declutter your papers, it is important that you be particularly strong in making decisions about what to keep. It can be extremely time consuming to go through every single piece of paper and make a decision as to its fate, therefore finding ways to make the process go quickly is a distinct advantage. One such way is this: If the information can be found on the Internet, then discard it. This goes for magazines, newspapers, recipes torn from magazines, etc. For most people this will immediately eliminate a large percentage of the paper clutter. Another action you can take is to file all important papers in your filing cabinet or concertina file.
Another great idea for dealing with paper, is to use a computer scanner, scan them all into the computer and then save them that way. Once the 'hard' copy has been scanned, it can be discarded and you will still have the copy on your computer, to be read at any time. This is a particularly good way to keep recipes that you wish to try out at a later date.
There are products that have been designed for just this purpose. The time and stress you save will far outweigh the cost of a good quality scanner.

- I hate to admit it, but I don't like to keep my recipes on the computer. I want them in my homemade cookbook, and I like having them in files where I can sit, relax, and look through them in a nice easy chair -- not my desk. I guess I'm also skeptical about having all my important documents where they might be hacked. I just wish I had more room for file cabinets in this house.

- I am horrible at throwing out paper. The only reason I am not currently drowning in paper clutter is that I recently moved and HAD to throw out stuff. It wont be long before I am back again to status Quo though. Great idea for a lens, I am sure this can help a lot of people. :)
