Desperate Housewives is so refreshing because it doesn't force me to take life so seriously. Many nighttime soaps, while entertaining, took life and situations and added heaps of unnecessary and time-consuming drama. I find myself looking forward to seeing what kind of mess Susan will get herself into and what kind of trouble Lynette's kids will cook up.![]()

- The series begins with the suicide of Mary Alice Young, who narrates the episodes from beyond the grave. Mary Alice's suicide leaves behind a puzzle involving her husband Paul, son Zach, and a mysterious toy chest. The story begins with the unraveling through her four friends: Lynette, Susan, Gabrielle and Bree and her neighbors.
- "Ah, But Underneath"
- Mike's dog ends up in the hospital after Edie intrudes on his date with Susan. Gabrielle's gardener John is taking their affair to heart. Bree pins the blame on Rex at marriage counseling. Lynette turns to drastic measures recommended by Mrs. Huber to keep her children disciplined, which ultimately fails.
- "Pretty Little Picture"
- Gabrielle bribes a little girl to keep quiet after catching her and John in the act. Bree unsuccessfully tries to keep her marriage problems a secret. Susan confronts her ex-husband Karl and is locked out of her house naked. Lynette desperately tries to convince Tom to come to the ladies' dinner party.

- Mrs. Huber blackmails Susan after witnessing her involvement with Edie's house's fire. Bree has trouble dealing with her teenage son after her husband Rex leaves. Carlos suspects Gabrielle is having an affair, but accuses the wrong person. Lynette learns her twin sons may have ADD and begins to take their medication.
- "Come In, Stranger"
- A number of break-ins on Wisteria Lane leaves the neighbors feeling vulnerable. Susan accepts a date with a policeman, thinking Mike has lost interest in her. Bree, lonely, bonds with Mary Alice's troubled son Zach. Lynette and Tom are insistent to enroll their twins at private school. Carlos' mother arrives to try and catch Gabrielle cheating.
- "Running to Stand Still"
- Lynette argues with another mother at the twins' school. Susan investigates the mystery surrounding the Young family. Gabrielle makes an effort to ensure Mama Solis doesn't discover her affair. Bree is horrified when Rex suggests they hire a sex surrogate to liven up their relationship.
- "Anything You Can Do"
- Susan is suspicious of Mike's unexpected houseguest. Lynette becomes more dependent on the twins' ADD medication. Gabrielle becomes jealous of the "other woman" in John's life. Bree's children mutiny when they learn their parents are divorcing. Mama Solis is run over moments after seeing Gabrielle and John in bed together.

- Susan becomes suspicious of Mike's real reason for moving to the Wisteria Lane. Lynette tries other methods to release her stress to cure her addiction to the twins' ADD medication. Bree tries to save Andrew from prosecution after his drunk driving puts Mama Solis in a coma. Gabrielle reveals her affair with John to a priest in confession.
- "Suspicious Minds"
- Gabrielle decides to hold a fashion show on the street for charity. Susan is less charitable when she realizes Gabrielle was having an affair with John. John's mother thinks he is having an affair with Susan, forcing Gabrielle to come clean. Bree catches Andrew smoking marijuana and reports him to the school. Lynette is overwhelmed with her work and tries to find a nanny. Carlos is arrested, claiming he was set up.
- "Come Back to Me"
- Bree discovers Rex had been seeing Maisy Gibbons for sex. Carlos is sentenced for importing slave labor goods, and his and Gabrielle's possessions are seized. Susan and Mike catch Zach sneaking around in her house. A jealous Lynette videotapes her new nanny, Claire.
- "Move On"
- The missing Mrs. Huber's sister, Felicia Tilman, arrives. Tom and Lynette fire Claire after he sees her naked late at night. Bree takes Rex in after he suffers a heart attack, but asks her pharmacist on a date. Karl reappears and Susan learns he cheated on her with Edie while they were married. Needing money, Gabrielle turns back to modeling.
- "Every Day a Little Death"
- The residents of Wisteria Lane learn Mrs. Huber's fate. Susan confesses her role in the burning down of Edie's house when she learns Mrs. Huber kept a journal. George gets closer to Bree but she sends him to hospital. Carlos' homecoming on house arrest is unexpected for Gabrielle. Lynette lies that her son has cancer to get him into daycare.
- "Your Fault"
- Lynette discovers her father-in-law has been consistently cheating on his wife. Susan is concerned with Julie and Zach's relationship. Rex tries to reconcile with Bree and warns George to stay away from her. John proposes to Gabrielle but she declines, claiming she still loves Carlos.
- "Love is in the Air"
- It's Valentine's Day on Wisteria Lane. Lynette discovers her boys are stealing from Mrs. McCluskey. Mike collapses from a gunshot wound at his romantic dinner with Susan. Bree scoffs at Rex's sexual desires. Gabrielle fires Yao Lin, but is fired herself from her modeling job.
- "Impossible"
- Susan is left heartbroken when Mike is arrested for Mrs. Huber's murder. Lynette insures Tom doesn't get his next promotion. Justin demands sex from Gabrielle or he will reveal her affair with John. Bree learns that Danielle is planning to lose her virginity to John.
- "The Ladies Who Lunch"
- Gabrielle and Carlos face a sewage disaster and cannot afford to fix it. Bree bribes Maisy Gibbons to remove Rex's name from her list of clients. Lynette is upset when her boys are accused of spreading head lice at school. Susan gets drunk and breaks into Paul's with Edie after being heartbroken by Mike.
- "There Won't Be Trumpets"
- Mama Solis wakes up from her coma but dies after falling down a fligth of stairs. Susan returns Mike's explanation and apology letter to him unread. Lynette befriends a deaf mother at Barcliff Academy. Bree and Rex send Andrew to juvenile boot camp. Gabrielle is offered a seven-figure negligence settlement sum by the hospital.
- "Children Will Listen"
- Bree and Rex visit Andrew at boot camp and learn that he might be gay. Carlos forces Gabrielle to sign a postnuptial agreement and tampers with her birth control. Susan's mother arrives unexpectedly, claiming her boyfriend abused her. Lynette is furious when she discovers that Bree spanked Parker.
- "Live Alone and Like It"
- Lynette befriends Mrs. McCluskey after she collapses in front of her. Susan's mother plans a double date for them both. Gabrielle, short of money, borrows and maxes out John's credit card. Bree convinces Andrew to see a minister about his sexuality, and he reveals his plans for his mother.
- "Fear No More"
- Gabrielle organizes a farewell party for Carlos, but ruins it by accusing him of tampering with her birth control. Rex is jealous of Bree and George's continued friendship. Lynette learns that Tom is working with his ex-grilfriend Annabel. Susan's kitchen catches fire and she blames Paul as the arsonist.

- Susan's mother moves out after being proposed to, and Susan learns that Mike is innocent. Lynette and Tom try to liven up their sexual relationship. Gabrielle tells John he could be the father of her baby. Edie spies on Bree and George having dinner together. Felicia takes in Zach and convinces Paul to leave.
- "Goodbye for Now"
- Edie is annoyed when Susan and Mike move in together, and tries to intervene via the other wives. Carlos ia arrested for assaulting Justin, thinking he is the father of Gabrielle's child. George lies to Bree to turn her away from Rex, who has a heart attack. Lynette's meddling causes Tom to lose another promotion so he stays away from Annabel. Betty and Matthew Applewhite move in during the middle of the night.
- "One Wonderful Day"
- Mary Alice's reason for suicide is finally revealed. Rex dies of a heart attack, wondering whether Bree poisoned him. Carlos goes to prison after attacking John when he learned he was having an affair with Gabrielle. Lynette goes back to work as Tom decides to be a stay-at-home dad. Susan is held at gunpoint by Zach, who wants to kill Mike.

- "Next"
- Mike has to think of a plan when he arrives home and finds Zach holding Susan hostage. Lynette tries to make a good impression on her new boss at the ad agency. Rex's demanding mother Phyllis arrives for his funeral and angers Bree while Betty and Matthew harbour a terrible secret in their basement. Although John is ready to move in, Gabrielle declines and starts to visit Carlos in jail, feeling guilty.
- "You Could Drive a Person Crazy"
- Susan is dismayed that Edie's new boyfriend is Karl, and is also suspicious of the Applewhites. Lynette persuades Tom to help around the house. Bree's mother-in-law, Phyllis, continues to drive Bree crazy with her melodramatic grieving. Carlos is beaten up by an inmate after Gabrielle didn't pay off his girlfriend.
- "You'll Never Get Away from Me"
- Phyllis' intervention means Rex is dug up and Bree has to take a polygraph test. Susan tries to accept Edie's new role in Julie's life, and tries to join in. Lynette's demanding boss makes her miss Parker's first day of kindergarten. Gabrielle is able to apologize to Carlos after seeing John with another woman.
- "My Heart Belongs to Daddy"
- Susan helps Mike search for Zach, but isn't of much help when she finds him. Gabrielle causes a prison riot while visiting Carlos, and has to find a new lawyer. Lynette tries to get rid of Parker's imaginary friend "Mrs. Mulberry". Andrew's diapproval is clear when Bree invites George to dinner.
- "They Asked Me Why I Believe In You"
- Susan's longtime book agent and dear friend, Lonny Moon, gets into financial trouble and she must help him. Bree reburies Rex amid police suspicions, and discovers a final note from Rex. Lynette is forced to stay out late with her boss, Nina, every night. Carlos is unhappy with Gabrielle's choice of lawyer to represent him. Matthew is worried of what the police would think of Caleb.
- "I Wish I Could Forget You"
- Lynette buys a new set of suits in order to impress Nina. George and Bree' relationship grows much closer. Susan and Mike reach a crisis when Paul arrives demanding to know where she sent Zach. Gabrielle sleeps with her lawyer so he will continue to represent Carlos.
- "Color and Light"
- George proposes to Bree but she refuses. Gabrielle falls down the stairs when Caleb, who had escaped, found his way into her house. Susan and Mike split up at the same time as Edie and Karl, and the ex-spouses reunite. Tom and Lynette are forced to cancel playdates after finding their children watching a homemade sex video at a neighbor's house.
- "The Sun Won't Set"
- A neighborhood watch committee is formed when the neighbors panic about the recent break-in. Susan is shocked at the news she learns about her father at her mother's wedding. Bree cancels the engagement after finding out some disturbing information about George. After learning that Gabrielle suffered a miscarriage, Carlos bcomes depressed and violent. Lynette is worried of the twins' vulnerability to stranger danger.
- "That's Good, That's Bad"
- George continues to stalk Bree, despite her efforts to separate from him. Carlos is paroled from prison and returns deeply religious thanks to a nun who helped push his parole case. Susan meets her father but her attempts to begin a relationship with him are unwanted. Lynette stands up to Nina and it is worthwhile. Bree discovers that George killed Rex and attacked Dr. Goldfine.
- "Coming Home"
- Zach returns home and reunites with Paul. In order to set up a daycare center at the office, Lynette must convince her boss's wife to leave her baby. Andrew returns home, with plans to take down Bree. Gabrielle faces off against sister Mary about Carlos' mission in Africa. Betty and Matthew help Caleb escape, unaware they are being followed.
- "One More Kiss"
- When Lynette catches Gabrielle kissing Tom, she decides to get even and kisses Carlos. Susan helps Mike try to bond with Zach, despite Paul's warnings to stay away from his son. Andrew blackmails Bree for the sake of his relationship with Justin. With an intruder in the house, the Applewhites end up with another dead body in their hands.
- "We're Gonna Be All Right"
- Susan fakes an illness in order to spend time with Dr. Ron. When pictures of Gabrielle appear on the internet, she forces Carlos to take action. Tom is alarmed when the boys come home with chicken pox. Bree, although in denial, is arrested for DUI. Mike finally visits Noah again after months of silence.
- "There's Something About a War"
- Susan will need surgery, but it will be Dr. Ron's first operation. The Applewhites announce that they're moving. After further arguments, Gabrielle agrees to have a baby with Carlos. Bree and Betty make an alliance with each other's secrets. Tom applies for a job at Lynette's agency. Gabrielle lies in confession so that Sister Mary is sent away.
- "Silly People"
- Tom tries desperately to impress Ed, his boss. Susan is forced to re-marry Karl to renew her health insurance. Bree slips into the Applewhites' house, seeking answers from Caleb. Gabrielle and Carlos offer to house Xiao-Mei, a rescued slave to be their new maid.
- "Thank You So Much"
- Edie finds Karl's ring for Susan, and thinks he's going to propose to her. Gabrielle's mother offers to be her and Carlos' surrogate. Bree agrees to babysit Lynette's children but falls asleep after drinking, and the children go missing, only to be found by Lynette later, who is furious at Bree.
- "There Is No Other Way"
- Carlos and Gabrielle are unable to adopt after they run into Helen Rowland at the adoption agency. On the operating table, Susan reveals she loves Mike, while a nurse reveals she is married. After being accused of abusing a bruise-covered Andrew, Bree joins AA. Tom is tired of Lynette always being in control. Paul is arrested, and Felicia returns.
- "Could I Leave You?"
- Susan's dinner with Ron and Karl ends up in a fight in the street with the two men and Mike. Lynette tries to end a colleague's breastfeeding. Gabrielle is insistent on having a "pretty baby". Bree continues to attend her AA meetings but is still in denial until she passes out and is locked in a department store.
- "Everybody Says Don't"
- After having sex with her AA sponsor, Bree is assigned a new sponsor. Carlos and Gabrielle learn their baby's father had no idea that Libby was giving the baby up. Despite her previous actions, Lynette defends Bree's parenting in court. Karl and Edie have an engagement party, where he and Susan have to confess their temporary marriage.
- "Don't Look at Me"
- Lynette's son Parker is eager to learn about "the birds and the bees". Carlos and Gabrielle go to court for custody of baby Lily after they find out she is legally not their child. Bree's parents come to town to mediate unsuccessfully between her and Andrew. Karl confesses his true feelings to Susan, and they end up in bed despite his commitments to Edie.
- "It Wasn't Meant to Happen"
- Gabrielle and Carlos are forced to surrender Lily when her biological father shows up to take her back. Susan has to intervene in a bar fight involving Edie and a waitress. Lynette tries to help her boss Ed liven up his sex life. Bree has to find a new AA sponsor, and she holds Caleb at gunpoint after he tries to rape Danielle.
- "I Know Things Now"
- Tom is fired when Lynette learns how Tom has been spending company money on non-business trips and tickets for two. Gabrielle and Carlos decide to use Xiao-Mei as their surrogate. Bree reaches the end of her rope and abandons Andrew. Edie hires a private detective to investigate Karl and Susan's relationship. Betty underestimates Matthew.
- "No One Is Alone"
- Bree is rejected by Danielle, who runs away with Matthew. Lynette follows Tom, only to find him staying with another woman. Susan persuades Edie to admit she was the arsonist of her house fire. Felicia has a final act of revenge for Paul. Gabrielle is jealous of the attention Carlos is giving Xiao-Mei.
- "Remember"
- Flashbacks take us back to moving-in day on Wisteria Lane for Bree, Lynette, Susan and Gabrielle and to how Mary Alice brought them all together; in other flashbacks the Applewhites' past in Chicago is revealed. Back in the present, Bree attempts to escape from the psychiatric hospital. Susan and Julie move into a motor home. Lynette finds out that Tom has another child with another woman. Gabrielle suspects Carlos is having an affair with Xiao-Mei. Zach inherits Noah's estate.
Season 3: 2006-2007
- S03E01 - "Listen to the Rain on the Roof"
- Mike is still in a coma six months after Orson ran him over and another man, Ian, asks Susan out. Lynette has to learn to deal with the mother of Tom's lovechild. Orson proposes to Bree, who accepts. Gabrielle and Carlos are getting divorced, while she reluctantly cares for pregnant Xiao-Mei.
- S03E02 - "It Takes Two"
- Gabrielle and Carlos are shocked when Xiao-Mei gives birth to the wrong baby. Edie lets her nephew Austin live with her after catching him breaking into her house. Tom and Lynette try to find Nora a boyfriend to keep her out of the house. Susan's date with Ian runs into trouble when his in-laws show up.
- S03E03 - "A Weekend in the Country"
- Gabrielle meets John at a resort, only to learn he's engaged. Bree sees Andrew on television and cancels the honeymoon to look for him. Susan and Ian ruin their romantic weekend. Nora continues to force her way into Tom and Lynette's lives. Julie asks Austin for help when the power goes off in her house.
- S03E04 - "Like It Was"
- Edie tries to steal Mike from Susan when he wakes up without memory. Bree discovers Danielle is sleeping with her history teacher and that Andrew became a hustler. Lynette bribes the coach and pitcher so Parker doesn't quit baseball. Gabrielle tries to get Carlos arrested but this backfires when the police side with Carlos.
- S03E05 - "Nice She Ain't"
- Susan kidnaps Mike when Edie continues to lie about his relationship with her. Danielle attempts suicide with a spoon after Bree makes her leave Mr. Falati. Gabrielle and Carlos try desperately to make each other jealous. Tom tells Lynette of his plans to open a pizzeria. Austin asks Julie for help with English homework.
- S03E06 - "Sweetheart, I Have to Confess"
- Susan stays with Ian while Edie is still with Mike. Lynette is upset with Tom for kissing Nora. Bree learns secrets about Orson's past. Gabrielle pushes Carlos out a window after he plays a cruel trick on her. Detective Ridley questions Mike about Monique's murder.
- S03E07 - "Bang"
- Carolyn holds up a supermarket with Lynette, Nora, Edie, Austin, Julie, and others trapped inside. Gaby and Carlos' war reaches a climax and an altercation inside the store leads to tragedy.
- S03E08 - "Children and Art"
- Detective Ridley is eager to search Mike's home when he's discharged from the hospital. Lynette suspects that Art might be a pedophile. Orson's mother, Gloria, moves in with him and Bree. Gabrielle returns to modeling, but doesn't last long. Susan seeks Karl's help to set boundaries for Julie and Austin.
- S03E09 - "Beautiful Girls"
- Gabrielle begins coaching young girls for a beauty pageant. Susan starts to move some of her things into Ian's house. Lynette unsuccessfully tries to turn Art in to the police as a pedophile. Gloria spills Orson's secrets to Bree and Bree throws him out of the house. Carlos moves in with Mike.
- S03E10 - "The Miracle Song"
- Edie splits up with Mike when he is sent to jail for Monique's murder. After taking Orson back, Bree decides Gloria must leave. Gabrielle tears apart two girls' friendship to date one of their fathers. The neighbors, especially Lynette, are horrified when Art turns up at the block party dressed as Santa Claus.
- S03E11 - "No Fits, No Fights, No Feuds"
- Susan visits Mike in prison a final time, to tell him Ian won't let her see him anymore. Lynette tries her hardest to accept Kayla into the family. Gabrielle receives an anonymous bunch of flowers. Bree hosts a dinner party when she introduces the guests to Alma.
- S03E12 - "Not While I'm Around"
- Tom and Lynette clash over decision-making in the pizzeria. Alma moves into the Applewhites' old house. Bree is shocked to find a bag of teeth in Alma's closet. After receiving more gifts, Gabrielle learns that her secret admirer, or stalker, is Zach. Susan tries to do what's best for Julie regarding her relationship with Austin.
- S03E13 - "Come Play Wiz Me"
- Ian sends Susan to the hospital to be with Jane while she dies. Lynette quits her job to work with Tom at the pizzeria. Alma rapes Orson, and Bree finds out. Gabrielle spends time with Zach in return for money to bail Mike out of jail on Susan's behalf.
- S03E14 - "I Remember That"
- Ian proposes to Susan at Jane's funeral but she postpones the offer. Tom and Lynette face further marital problems at the pizzeria. Orson explains the truth about Monique's death to Bree. Zach bribes Gabrielle's boyfriend to dump her. Mike confronts Orson after visiting a hypnotherapist and having memories returned.
- S03E15 - "The Little Things You Do Together"
- Monique's murder mystery is solved. Bree and Susan reconcile. Lynette's in trouble with Tom when they don't have enough chairs for the pizzeria's grand opening. Ian proposes to Susan a second time. Zach tries to convince Gabrielle they had sex when she was drunk. Alma dies trying to escape from her home and Gloria is permanently paralyzed.
- S03E16 - "My Husband, the Pig"
- Steven Culp narrates this episode as Rex Van De Kamp. Bree and Orson are about to leave for their honeymoon as Danielle tells them she's pregnant. Ian wants to marry Susan sooner rather than later. Tom tries to make a nice romantic gesture for Lynette, but fails miserably. Gabrielle meets Victor Lang, who is running for mayor of Fairview. Carlos bonds with Edie's son Travers.
- S03E17 - "Dress Big"
- Susan clashes with Ian's parents. Lynette is devastated when she finds an unconscious Tom on the floor in the pizzeria and he is unable to work for three months. Gabrielle steals some of Victor's ex-wife's clothes after her closet is ruined. Carlos and Edie enter a relationship.
- S03E18 - "Liaisons"
- Tom is annoyed with Lynette when she hires a former drug-addict to manage the pizzeria. Edie and Carlos take their relationship to the next level. Victor confesses he's in love with Gabrielle. Susan and Ian contemplate moving to London when they drive into a lake a Mike comes to their rescue.
- S03E19 - "God, That's Good"
- Susan breaks up with Ian when she learns about his and Mike's poker bet over her. Lynette takes Rick's advice over Tom's at the pizzeria. Victor and Gabrielle are blackmailed of pictures of their sex in an elevator. Parker and Ida find Mrs. McClusky's dead husband's body in the freezer. Edie and Carlos try and hide their relationship.
- S03E20 - "Gossip"
- Gabrielle finds out about Carlos' relationship with Edie and is not happy. Tom is worried when Lynette stays back late at the pizzeria to spend more time with Rick. Both Ian and Mike leave and Susan is left alone. Mrs. McCluskey tells the housewives the truth about her husband.
- S03E21 - "Into the Woods"
- Mike rescues Susan after she gets lost looking for him in the woods. Lynette fires Rick promptly after he admits he loves her. Gabrielle is arrested after assaulting a police officer. Edie fears that Carlos has lost interest her after Travers' father takes him away.
- S03E22 - "What Would We Do Without You?"
- A CAT scan shows Lynette has swollen lymph nodes, which could be lymphoma. Mike proposes to Susan, who clashes with Gabrielle when she finds out their wedding plans are set for the same day after she cancelled earlier. Edie decides to have a baby with Carlos, but is still secretly taking birth control pills.
- S03E23 - "Getting Married Today"
- Gabrielle finds out a shocking secret about Victor at their wedding. Bree returns with Orson and pretends to be pregnant with Danielle's baby. Lynette's estranged mother returns to help her get through her lymphoma treatment. Susan and Mike get married privately in the woods. Edie hangs herself after Carlos breaks up with her.

- The residents are shocked to learn about Edie. Susan finds out she's pregnant. Lynette tells the other housewives about her cancer. Bree desperately tries to hide the fact that her pregnancy is fake. Gabrielle continues her secret affair with Carlos.
- S04E02 - "Smiles of a Summer Night"
- Susan is mistaken for a stripper. Lynette bans Tom from her chemotherapy sessions. Bree does some sneaky sleuthing in Katherine's house and overhears Katherine and Dylan arguing about Dylan's birthfather. Edie blackmails Carlos into getting engaged.
- S04E03 - "The Game"
- Susan and Mike have a charades party at their house. Stella makes some pot-laced brownies for Lynette to rid her of the chemo side affects. Bree tells the other housewives about what she overheard in Katherine's house. Gabrielle is unhappy to learn about Carlos and Edie's engagement.
- S04E04 - "If There's Anything I Can't Stand"
