Double-Decker Strawberry, Banana, and Chocolate Crepes Recipe
Easy, illustrated directions for these double decker crepes are provided farther down this page.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or just use 1 full cup of either type)
- 3 tsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cup (to 1 3/4 cup) water
- 1 egg
- vegetable oil or cooking spray
- sliced fresh strawberries
- sliced fresh bananas
- chocolate chips
- powdered sugar
- nuts (optional)
Instructions
Mix the flour, sugar, salt, water, and egg in a small sized mixing bowl. The batter should be very thin.
Preheat a pan on medium heat with a very small amount of vegetable oil. The oil should just barely mist the bottom of the pan. When the pan is warm, pick it up off the stove and hold it while you pour a small amount of batter (about 1/4 cup) into it. Important: As you are pouring the batter, tilt the pan slowly in all directions so that the batter spreads in a very thin layer across the bottom. When the edges start peeling away from the pan, or when they become lightly golden, gently loosen the crepe with a spatula and flip it over in the pan. Now sprinkle the dark chocolate chips on one half of the crepe. Add the sliced bananas on top of the chocolate chips. Fold the other half of the crepe over the strawberries and chocolate chips. Use the spatula to carefully remove the crepe from the pan and place it onto a plate.
Make another crepe as described above, yet this time put strawberries on top of the chocolate chips, instead of bananas. After this crepe is done, carefully place it on top of the previous crepe. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. You can also top the crepe with additional strawberries, bananas, nuts, etc, if you'd like. Or write on the crepe with decorating gel.

This dessert crepe has powdered sugar and a heart made out of cake decorating gel.
Having a good pan or crepe maker can make a lot of difference in how easy it is to make crepes!
The best crepe pans have low, slanted sides, to aid in getting a spatula under the crepe.
Is this Double Decker Strawberry Banana Crepe TOO Chocolately?
What do you think?

I made this Double Decker Strawberry, Banana, and Chocolate Crepe
for my son for Valentine's day this year.

This simple but elegant double decker crepe has powdered sugar on the top.
Illustrated Crepe Making Directions
for Double Decker Strawberry, Banana, and Chocolate Crepes!

Step 2: Heat the pan over medium heat with only a tiny amount of oil. When the pan is warm, hold the pan in your hand and tilt it around in a circle as you add about 1/4 cup of the batter. You want to evenly spread the batter around on the pan in a very thin layer, by tilting the pan.
Both of these have a little too much crepe batter, but the crepes turned out well anyway. If you end up with a large hole in your crepe, simply fill in the hole with a tiny bit of batter and then smooth over the area with a spoon.
Step 3. When the top looks smooth and the edges of the crepe start to turn up, carefully lift the edges of the crepe and then flip the crepe over.

Step 4: Smooth out any wrinkles. If the crepe tears, repair it with a tiny amount of additional batter.

These are both the exact same crepe. I just moved the wrinkled crepe around until it was smooth again, as seen on the right.
Step 5: Immediately add the chocolate chips on one half of the crepe, followed by the sliced fruit. (Strawberries or bananas).

I added chopped nuts, along with bananas and chocolate chips, to the inside of this crepe.
Step 6: Then fold the crepe over, and remove it from the pan. Repeat the above steps with a new crepe. Place one folded crepe on top of the other, and top as desired!

This double decker crepe
has chocolate and bananas on the bottom layer, chocolate and strawberries in the middle, and powdered sugar and additional strawberries on the very top!
