The big question: What do we wear for our destination wedding?

Let the location and formality of the ceremony determine what you should wear.

You can purchase a "destination dress" which is a wedding dress without a train and made specifically for outdoor destination weddings. They are less formal, but they are wedding dresses.

If you are getting married on a beach, you should choose a dress that has no train and is lighter in weight so you are comfortable outdoors. Think of something floaty and maybe in a chiffon fabric. You can't wear heels in the sand, if you don't believe me, try it just once. ;) The dress should be fully lined so you can't see through it in the sunlight and with enough body to the dress that you don't have to wear a crinoline underneath the dress. Crinolines are bulky and hot!

If you are getting married at a Caribbean resort like Sandals Resorts
you can wear a formal wedding dress with a train because they will handle your dress for you and the location will accommodate a formal gown.

If you are getting married on a cruise ship, you can wear a formal gown with train or a more informal destination dress.

In Las Vegas, anything goes. You can get married in shorts and a tee shirt or a formal wedding gown. If you are marrying in a Las Vegas resort hotel, think more formal. If you visit a Las Vegas wedding chapel, you'll see everything from casual everyday clothes to formal wedding gowns.

If you are marrying outside, you may not want a train on your dress, simply because its easier to maneuver without one.

The rule for mens wear is that if the bride is wearing a formal wedding dress, he should wear a tux. If you are marrying on the beach, he can wear a lightweight silk shirt with linen pants because its more comfortable in the heat.

If you are wearing a destination dress, he can wear a light weight sports coat or a dressy silk shirt for an indoor ceremony.
